ABC7 quoted information from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department as saying that the lion attack on the 11-year-old girl occurred at around 5:40 p.m. on August 10.
The girl was reportedly feeding chickens in the backyard of her Malibu, California, home when a mountain lion suddenly pounced on her and bit her on the arm. Her family rushed her to the hospital, where her injuries were not life-threatening.

After the attack, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife found a mountain lion and euthanized it. Authorities will conduct DNA testing to determine whether this is the same lion that attacked the girl.
The incident occurred after a 6-year-old boy was attacked by a coyote at his sister’s softball field in Carson, California. The boy reportedly needed 20 stitches after being bitten on the back of his head and both legs.
Mountain lions are not uncommon in parts of Southern California. According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, there have been about 50 mountain lion attacks on humans in the state over the past 100 years.
