Hai Phong Goalkeeper Dang Van Lam suffered a calf injury and left the field in the 60th minute of the match where Binh Dinh defeated host Hai Phong 1-0 in round 8 of V-League 2023-2024.
In the 57th minute, while running to the right wing to get the ball, Van Lam stopped because he felt pain in his right leg. He was treated by Binh Dinh's medical team for about three minutes before leaving the field, giving way to reserve goalkeeper Tran Dinh Minh Hoang. When the match ended, Van Lam walked with limping steps.
Dang Van Lam has been Binh Dinh's number one goalkeeper since 2022, after leaving Cerezo Osaka in J-League 1. After eight rounds this season, he has kept three clean sheets, conceding eight goals - the third fewest in the V-League and equal to Filip Nguyen. Van Lam and Filip are considered the two best goalkeepers in Vietnamese football at the moment, both on the list of the national team about to gather to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup.

Van Lam left the field, but Binh Dinh's defense remained strong to maintain the 1-0 score against Hai Phong. At Lach Tray Stadium on the evening of December 27, Binh Dinh started the game tightly and started to have many opportunities after about 15 minutes. However, the shots of Leonardo De Melo and Alan Sebastiao could not beat Dinh Trieu, who was very focused in the home team's goal.
In the 41st minute, Hai Phong attacked well on the right wing, allowing Huu Son to cross for Lucao Do Break to tap in from close range, but Van Lam used his foot to block. Missing a good chance, the home team had to pay the price after only three minutes. Center back Marlon Rangel advanced and passed the ball to Leonardo De Melo, who ran down to face him and then placed the ball past Dinh Trieu.

In the second half, Binh Dinh continued to create trouble in the 56th minute. Melo received the ball in front of the penalty area and passed it to Van Thuan, but his shot could not get past Dinh Trieu's legs. The away team then played a deep defense and neutralized all the attacks, successfully preserving the score of 1-0.
