The referee team for this year's Champions League final has been identified by UEFA.
Mr. Kovacs is the main referee, assisted by two Romanian assistants, Mihai Marica and Ferencz Tunyogi. The fourth referee, Joao Pinheiro, is Portuguese, while the VAR referee is Mr. Dennis Johan Higler (Netherlands).
Kovacs, 40, has refereed several major European tournaments. Before taking charge of this Champions League final, he officiated his first UEFA Conference League final in 2022, when AS Roma won 1-0 against Feyenoord.
Mr Kovacs also took charge of last year's Europa League final, when Atalanta beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0.
Most recently, Romanian referees were appointed to officiate at the Euro 2024 finals. Mr. Kovacs issued 16 yellow cards in a match between the Czech Republic and Türkiye, a tournament record.

In this year's Champions League, Mr. Kovacs has officiated a total of 7 matches, including 2 matches of PSG and 1 match of Inter Milan.
He officiated PSG's 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield in the last 16, as well as PSG's 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich, in which the Romanian referee showed Ousmane Dembele a red card.
For Inter, Mr. Kovacs officiated the Serie A representative's 1-0 win over Arsenal. The Romanian referee awarded a penalty to the home team Inter.
Mr. Kovacs is one of the few referees who has officiated the most matches in the Champions League this season. In 7 matches, he has shown an average of 2.71 yellow cards per game.
