On the evening of August 18, the film “Red Rain” held a press conference to premiere the film at the National Cinema Center in Hanoi . The film revolves around the battle in the ancient citadel of Quang Tri in 1972, between the liberation army of South Vietnam and the army of the Republic of Vietnam under the support of the United States.

Overwhelmed in many aspects such as firepower, equipment and battle formation, the liberation army still steadfastly held out for 81 days and nights. The ancient citadel front not only witnessed the war as a true “meat grinder”, but also the indomitable spirit of Uncle Ho’s soldiers.

What do the experts say?

Watching the film, director Bui Thac Chuyen of the film "Tunnel" commented that "Red Rain" is of a grand scale and difficult to make. "In terms of scale and difficulty, 'Red Rain' is much more difficult than 'Tunnel' ."

One of the reasons is that “Red Rain” has more ground fighting, requiring the filmmakers to not only do each fight well, but also create different dramas and gradually increasing climaxes. Director Bui Thac Chuyen said he has not made such films, because in “Tunnels” you can fight very quickly and then immediately return to the ground.

Witness, veteran Nguyen Van Hoi of the K3 Tam Dao battalion - the prototype of the K3 Tam Son battalion with the mission of guarding the ancient citadel in the film - was also invited to watch the film.

He said he was moved and could not hold back his tears. “We could not hold back our tears thinking of our comrades. The citadel was only 500m wide on each side, but our battalion alone had more than 1,000 people left behind.”

Major General Do Trieu Phong - Director of the People's Public Security Communications Department - is a native of Quang Tri. He was born and raised in Hanoi because his father went to the North to regroup, and named his son after his hometown. He shared: "Watching movies, there are no words to describe the harshness of Quang Tri ancient citadel." He compared the ancient citadel to a museum because there is not a single grave here, but every branch and blade of grass is soaked in blood for 81 days and nights.

Actor not out of character

"Red Rain" revolves around the K3 Tam Son battalion, the unit assigned to hold the citadel with the slogan: As long as K3 remains, Quang Tri citadel remains. Under the fierce fire of the enemy, the liberation army was sacrificed everywhere. Of the hundreds of additional people who survived to reach the citadel, only a handful could be counted on the fingers, and they could not hold out for long on the battlefield.

Possessing a straightforward and straightforward personality, the character of Captain Ta (actress Phuong Nam) became a highlight of K3. He comes from a farming family, has combat experience and bravery due to being on the battlefield before, being affected by harsh weather and environment.

Every time he participates in a film event, Phuong Nam recreates the image of a scalp that is peeled and damaged like a soldier on the battlefield. He shares sympathy and connects deeply with the character, because his grandfather was a martyr and he himself has a wife and children like Captain Ta.

“There are many roles that come and go, but I feel like this character Ta will stay forever. Today is the fourth time I have returned as the character Ta, and the feeling of Ta's appearance will always follow me,” Phuong Nam shared.

Parallel to the battle on the Quang Tri front was the battle of wits at the Paris Agreement negotiation table in France. Hoa Minzy played the role of a member of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam delegation, reporting, “The soldiers fought very tenaciously. The Citadel Front was still held.”

The female singer appeared at the end of the screening, choking up while singing the theme song “Pain in the Middle of Peace (composed by Nguyen Van Chung). “Hoa was lucky to have a small scene and only two lines, but today when I watched it, I realized that my lines appeared at a very important stage.”

Through the soundtrack, Hoa Minzy emotionally expressed her gratitude to the heroic martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers and heroic Vietnamese wives, hoping that everyone would love the song and go to the cinema to watch the movie.

“Red Rain” will have early screenings from August 21 and will be shown nationwide from August 22./.
