Recently, the Institute of Archaeology (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences ) organized a "Scientific Field Seminar" on Archaeological Excavation at Ba Ngo Pagoda, Truong Xuan Village, Truong Yen Commune, Hoa Lu District, Ninh Binh Province.

Archaeologists presented on the value of artifacts collected during the excavation of Ba Ngo pagoda area, Truong Xuan village, Truong Yen commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province.

Attending the seminar were leaders of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ninh Binh province; experts and students of Trent University (Canada); specialized departments of the Department of Culture and Sports; local representatives...

The archaeological excavation at Ba Ngo Pagoda area was conducted from May 3 to June 3, 2024. The archaeological activities were carried out by the Institute of Archaeology, Trent University and the Department of Culture and Sports of Ninh Binh province.

The archaeological excavation pit was carried out on an area of 8m2, 30cm-70cm deep. The purpose of the excavation is to study and research the ecological and social history including population patterns, agricultural activities and water resource management in the ancient capital of Hoa Lu in the 10th century.

The program conducts archaeological studies of settlements in the suburban area and the outer belt area of the Hoa Lu citadel center.

During the excavation process, scientists collected about 1,400 pieces of artifacts, including pieces of bricks, tiles, ceramics, burnt soil, iron scraps, iron ore, slag, animal bones, mollusk shells, etc.

Through research by domestic and foreign scientists, the value of artifacts showing the daily life of ancient Hoa Lu residents in the 10th century has been initially shown, including the iron smelting furnace and living area as well as the ground reinforcement techniques in low-lying conditions of Hoa Lu residents.

The information and value of archaeological excavations will be important data providing more valuable information for researchers and historians to deepen the scientific, historical, cultural, social values... of the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital heritage in national history.
