The Hanoi People's Committee has issued Plan No. 302/KH-UBND on the peak of food safety communication in Hanoi for the period 2024 - 2025.

The Hanoi Food Safety Communication Plan for the 2024-2025 period was issued to create substantial changes in the awareness and actions of subjects including consumers, managers, producers, processors, and food traders.

This is an activity to contribute to building a civilized lifestyle, in which food security and safety are promoted, becoming a permanent and mandatory requirement; persistently fighting on the media front against all subjects and all behaviors that cause food insecurity and hygiene, cause disease risks, and harm public health.

Regarding propaganda content, the Plan clearly states that communication on food safety must be regularly and persistently propagated, affirming and highlighting the Party's viewpoint of paying great attention to food safety work.

The propaganda content links food safety with security issues in the spirit of Directive No. 17-CT/TW of the Central Secretariat; Directive No. 34-CT/TU of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, considering "Food security and safety as important issues, both urgent and long-term; directly affecting and influencing people's health and the quality of the national race".

Units and localities disseminate andeducate about food safety laws; disseminate knowledge and skills on proper food safety practices to consumers, managers, food producers, processors and traders to limit food poisoning and infectious diseases.

On the other hand, propaganda units raise consumer awareness, do not buy food that does not ensure quality and food safety sold on the roadside, sidewalk; create the habit of scanning QR codes to trace the origin of goods; propagate and promote the ethical factors of food producers, processors and traders.

Along with that, the press agency promptly reported on the implementation of solutions to ensure food safety in the city; promptly warned about factors and behaviors that pose a risk of causing food insecurity from both consumers and food suppliers.

In addition, units and localities should inform and honor businesses, food producers, processors and traders who do a good job in food safety, promptly commend advanced examples and safe food production and processing models; widely disseminate addresses providing safe food for people and food consumers to support and choose.

In addition, units and localities must publicly disclose information about businesses, producers, processors, and traders of unsafe food that have been punished or warned by authorities; continue to publicly disclose information and warnings until the units have corrected, amended, and ensured food safety.

The City People's Committee requests to promote news, articles, and media products with content criticizing and fighting against subjects and acts of violating food safety, daily, weekly, and during peak food safety occasions such as: Food Safety Action Month, Mid-Autumn Festival, New Year's Day, Lunar New Year, etc.

Regarding the form of propaganda, the City People's Committee requires propaganda in the press; on the general electronic information page, social networks; through knowledge training for subjects; on the Hanoi Electronic Communication Portal, the Electronic Information Portal/Page of departments, branches, sectors, People's Committees of districts, towns; on the grassroots information system and visual propaganda.

More specifically about food safety control, according to the leader of Hanoi Department of Health , from now until the end of the year, Hanoi will focus on implementing the topic "Strengthening food safety control in and around school gates in Hanoi" for educational institutions.

In fact, currently, around most schools in Hanoi, snack shops and mobile stalls are "springing up like mushrooms" with many strange foods of unknown origin.

The common feature of these food items is that they are processed right on the roadside, creating dust and unsanitary conditions. However, these dishes still attract students, becoming a danger to their health.

Head of the Hanoi Food Safety Department Dang Thanh Phong said that from now until the end of the year, food safety management will continue to be strengthened, in which the City will focus on implementing the topic "Strengthening food safety control in and around school gates in Hanoi" for educational institutions.

Hanoi will review and count educational establishments, collective kitchens, and school canteens in the area under its management. At the same time, the authorities will investigate, review, and regularly update food service establishments, street food establishments, and grocery stores that sell prepackaged foods and ready-to-eat processed foods according to each industry and food item around school gates.

In addition, the City has synchronously, drastically and effectively implemented food safety control work in and around school gates with a focus on high-risk food groups, ready-to-eat food and drinks, and establishments providing ready-to-eat meals.

In particular, the work of inspecting, monitoring, and tracing the origin of food in and around school gates is carried out seriously, regularly, and continuously; organizations and individuals violating food safety are strictly handled, and information is widely disseminated on mass media.

According to doctors, using food of unknown origin and unsafe can cause acute symptoms such as: abdominal pain, diarrhea, digestive disorders, food poisoning...

In particular, if eaten for a long time, it will affect the body's metabolism and make it susceptible to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and obesity.

The use of chemicals, pesticides, and growth stimulants that remain in foods will seep into the body, accumulate, and cause cancer.
