The Van Thanh Bridge project consists of 6 spans totaling 174 m in length, with a total bridge length of 179.8 m; the bridge width is 19 m, including a 15 m wide carriageway and 2 m wide pedestrian walkways and railings on each side. The approach road is 295.4 m long, with a 27 m wide roadbed, a 15 m wide road surface, and 6 m wide sidewalks on each side, constructed with asphalt concrete.

The total land area to be acquired for the Van Thanh Bridge project is 1.66 hectares/39 files (34 households and 5 organizations). Of this, Phu Tai ward accounts for 0.85 hectares/21 files and Duc Long ward accounts for 0.81 hectares/18 files. Construction commenced on December 30, 2022, and the Provincial People's Committee has granted an extension until December 30, 2025. Upon completion, the project will also improve the Y-shaped intersection in Duc Long ward, complete the drainage system, green spaces, lighting system, and underground electrical wiring to ensure urban aesthetics.
At a recent press briefing, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Hoang – Head of the Project Management Department of the Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board for Transportation Works – stated that the project has currently reached approximately 53% of the contract volume. Accordingly, the contractor is currently constructing underwater and near-shore sections (due to the handover of the approach roads on both sides of the bridge). Several abutments and piers have been completed, 114 out of 114 bridge girders have been cast, 13 out of 114 girders have been installed, and 44 out of 44 concrete piles have been driven. Equipment is being arranged and the site prepared for the installation of 4 bridge girder spans (a total of 79 girders) in June 2025.
Representatives from the Provincial Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transportation Projects stated that the current difficulty in implementing the project lies in the numerous obstacles encountered in land clearance. Meanwhile, construction work at the site is facing difficulties, requiring adjustments to construction methods to suit the site clearance issues and the contractor's actual conditions, resulting in a slower progress than directed by the Provincial People's Committee.
It is reported that, regarding compensation and land clearance, compensation plans have been approved for 31 out of 39 files, reaching 79.5% (13 out of 18 files in Duc Long ward, 18 out of 21 files in Phu Tai ward). The Phan Thiet City Land Fund Development Center has coordinated with the investor, construction unit, and local authorities to facilitate land handover, achieving 72.5%. Specifically, Duc Long ward has approved 15 out of 18 files with a total land area of 7,900 m², and Phu Tai ward has approved 5 out of 21 files with a total land area of 4,100 m².
Therefore, the Provincial Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transportation Works has requested the People's Committee of Phan Thiet City to direct relevant agencies and units to urgently complete compensation and support dossiers, focusing on issuing decisions approving compensation plans for all dossiers and completing the handover of land to the investor for construction. Simultaneously, the Provincial Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transportation Works will continue to direct the construction unit to accelerate the construction progress, proceeding with construction wherever land is available.
