To avoid spending half a day traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh airport: Build a railway and need a breakthrough in procedures

Currently, the connection from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh airport is only by road, there is no railway or metro. Readers think that if we are just discussing now, it will take at least 3 years to open the connecting route?

The article " The Ministry of Construction proposes to assign Ho Chi Minh City to build a road connecting Tan Son Nhat - Long Thanh airport" is attracting special attention from the public, because currently the only connection between these two places is by road, while the distance is nearly 50km and there is no railway or metro.

The above concern is even greater when recently there was a proposal to move all goods and international flights from Tan Son Nhat to Long Thanh airport.

Many readers are worried that when all international flights from Tan Son Nhat are transferred to Long Thanh airport, passengers from far away may have to leave half a day early to catch their flights.

Long Thanh Airport will be operational in 2026 but is only being discussed now, will it be completed in 3 years?

Reader Ly Ly said that the Long Thanh - Ho Chi Minh City expressway, especially the section from Highway 51 to the city center, although Long Thanh airport is not yet in operation, is often overloaded and congested for long periods. "It's really worrying!", this reader expressed.

Reader Hoang Long asked: "The airport is almost finished, so when will the connecting route finally be available? These projects should have been calculated and implemented synchronously a long time ago."

Sharing the same opinion, reader Le Duc Dong said that the airport connection road "should have been completed... If it is proposed now, who knows when it will be completed. We are too passive."

A reader named Nam suggested: "Just now proposing a policy, so it will take a long time to have a road. Why not implement it now?"

Reader Son Ha thinks that if we only discuss now, it will take at least 3 more years to open the connecting road.

"This should have been done right from the time of the proposal to build Long Thanh airport and the plan to operate two airports in parallel," reader Gia added.

Urgent project of urgent: Railway is the solution

According to many readers, the project cannot be delayed any further, because the railway is the key solution to reduce traffic jams and increase connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh airport. This is the most urgent project. Therefore, reader Hoang Tien expressed his wish to see the "shape" of this railway line soon.

Reader HT believes that assigning Ho Chi Minh City as the governing body to smoothly connect Long Thanh - Tan Son Nhat is necessary, and at the same time, it is necessary to apply a special mechanism to shorten procedures and implement it quickly but transparently.

"We have a two-tier infrastructure design including a highway and a parallel metro line, combining budget capital and public-private partnership - PPP, allowing investors to implement the whole package.

Land clearance must be carried out in parallel between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai , with the project completing its documents in 2025, starting construction in late 2025 or early 2026 and operating in 2028," reader HT proposed a solution.

Some other readers think that Ho Chi Minh City should complete the Tan Son Nhat - Long Thanh route and then continue with Long Thanh - Vung Tau, which will "have both sides satisfied", while the Bien Hoa - Long Thanh route should be handed over to Dong Nai to implement.

Reader Ly Na believes that along with the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh route, it is necessary to build two more metro lines, including Tan Son Nhat - Thu Thiem and Suoi Tien - Long Thanh, to help passengers on international and domestic connecting flights not have to change means of transport too many times. In addition, these routes also serve a lot of public and official passengers, so they will be very effective.

Regarding speed range, reader HB suggested building a direct route from Long Thanh airport to Tan Son Nhat with a speed of 120-150km/h, frequency of 5 minutes/trip each way, 10-15 minutes to travel a distance of 43km.

From the investment method perspective, some opinions suggest that large private corporations should be mobilized to speed up progress.

According to reader Mr. Hien, Long Thanh airport will be inaugurated on December 19, but the road from Ho Chi Minh City to it is far and lacks connectivity. Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and related ministries need to coordinate well, mobilize all resources from the state and private sector to soon start construction of the railway and roads connecting Tan Son Nhat - Long Thanh.

While waiting for the railway, Tran Anh Tung proposed a connection solution to avoid traffic jams by building a high-speed route exclusively for passenger trams between the two airports.

Reader Mr. Hien suggested increasing the number of Tan Son Nhat - Long Thanh bus trips and arranging separate areas for taxis and technology cars at both airports so that passengers can easily recognize them.
