At Nhon Binh Secondary School (Quy Nhon Dong Ward, Gia Lai Province) when we arrived (November 21), a thick layer of mud covered the hallways and classrooms. Student desks and chairs, teaching equipment, and books on the first floor were all soaked and damaged. In the school yard, many places were still flooded. 100 officers and soldiers of Artillery Brigade 368 (Military Region 5) were present here very early to help teachers overcome the consequences of the flood.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Dieu, Deputy Brigade Commander and Chief of Staff of the 368th Artillery Brigade, said: With the determination to let students return to school as soon as possible, from the evening of November 20, when the floodwaters had not completely receded, the brigade commander coordinated with the local Party Committee, authorities and the school's Board of Directors to survey and discuss solutions. "We agreed to clean up as the floodwaters receded, and the next morning, officers and soldiers of the 368th Artillery Brigade cleared mud, dredged sewers, cut down fallen trees, and cleaned desks and classrooms. Looking at the piles of wet books and damaged teaching equipment and supplies being carried out by officers and soldiers, everyone felt heartbroken," said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Dieu.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Van An, Deputy Political Commissar of Regiment 38, Division 2 (Military Region 5) said: Immediately after the water receded, the unit mobilized more than 200 officers and soldiers to Nhon Phu Primary School, Nhon Phu Secondary School, Quang Trung University, SOS Quy Nhon Kindergarten (SOS Quy Nhon village), kindergartens in groups 4 and 5 (Quy Nhon Bac ward) to clean up. When we arrived, the schools were all in disarray and dilapidated after the flood. The workload was large, so the regimental commander assigned each group to work closely, pulling mud out of the classrooms, collecting trash, cleaning tables, chairs, cabinets, and cleaning the school grounds.
“Now schools can let students return to school and officers and soldiers of Regiment 38 will continue to help localities and people clean up and repair other locations. When schools, medical facilities, offices and people return to normal operations, officers and soldiers of Regiment 38 will withdraw to their units,” said Lieutenant Colonel Le Van An.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Director of SOS Children's Village Quy Nhon, emotionally said: The most difficult and arduous tasks after the flood of SOS Village Quy Nhon in general and SOS Kindergarten Quy Nhon in particular were supported by the army and police to clean up and overcome. This support not only ensures the school can soon return to operation but also contributes to disease prevention and control, and safety for teachers and students after the flood./.
