Colonel Phan Dai Nghia, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 5, shared: "In the face of heavy damage caused by floods, the Military Region Command has mobilized maximum forces and means; proactively ensured food, essential necessities, and promptly supported localities."

Flooded people in Gia Lai province receive gifts from Military Region 5 Command.

In the past few days, Military Region 5 has transported nearly 15 tons of dry food to affected provinces; the Military Commands of Gia Lai, Dak Lak , and Khanh Hoa alone received 3-4 tons per day for direct distribution. In addition, the logistics force maintains more than 4 tons of reserves in field warehouses, ready to mobilize when required.

On the way to the disaster area, Major Ha Phuoc Cuong, Deputy Battalion Commander of Battalion 1, Engineer Brigade 270, said that the engineering force continuously had to face many landslides. “In some places, rocks and soil fell down, blocking the way, so we had to clear the road and advance at the same time. The spirit of rescue and relief urged every step to be faster and more determined,” he shared.

Major General Luong Dinh Chung, Political Commissar of Military Region 5, traveled by canoe to an isolated area in Dak Lak province.

In Khanh Hoa , when the water was still rising, officers and soldiers of the Provincial Military Command, the defense command of the areas and Division 305 were present in time at key locations, coordinating the evacuation of people to safety. Wherever the water receded, the soldiers stayed with the people: supporting movement, bringing clean water by tanker trucks, distributing necessities, clearing roads, disinfecting the environment...

At the 26th Nursing Home (Political Department of Military Region 5), the warmth of the military-civilian relationship spread from the red fires that burned day and night. Hot meals, sturdy temporary shelters, and safe sleeping places helped hundreds of people ease their worries after hours of panic due to the flood. These practical actions were recognized by the Party Committee, the government, and the people with sincere gratitude.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy in Dong 2 village, Dien Dien commune, Khanh Hoa province, choked up as she recounted the moment the floodwaters came in: “The water rose so quickly, it was just in the yard and it had already flooded the table, then the mezzanine. My child and I didn’t know what to do, we just hugged each other and cried. Luckily, the soldiers arrived in time to take us to the canoe. When the water receded, they returned to distribute rice and necessities… I can’t express how grateful I am!”

At Dien Dien Primary School, the evacuation point for hundreds of people, the eyes that were dirty after the storm lit up when they were assured of shelter, clean water, medicine, and a warm meal. Ms. Le Thi Thom was moved: "My child kept saying that he would join the army in the future, to help people like you guys."

Soldiers of Military Region 5 organized medical examinations and provided medicine to people in flooded areas.

During the inspection and gift-giving trip to Dak Lak, the flood-hit area, Major General Luong Dinh Chung, Political Commissar of Military Region 5, emphasized: “Military units of Military Region 5 are focusing on the task of providing relief to the people, protecting people's lives is the top priority. All forces and means are mobilized to transport food and support isolated people; absolutely ensuring that people do not go hungry, lack clean water, or lack medicine. Units are always ready to give up barracks, safe places to eat and stay for people, and join hands to overcome the consequences at schools and medical facilities…”.

The spirit of “sacrificing oneself for the people” is clearly demonstrated in every step of the march, every shipment of goods across the flood, every hand-holding to help people through deep, murky water. Thanks to the decisive, flexible and highly responsible leadership of the Military Region 5 Command, the local armed forces have made an important contribution to helping people overcome the most dangerous moment and soon stabilize their lives after the flood.

In times of hardship and adversity, the bond between the army and the people was once again tested and shone brightly. The steps towards the people in the midst of natural disasters affirmed the bravery, humanity and heart of Uncle Ho's soldiers today.
