Accordingly, Dong Nai Department of Construction has sent a document to Bien Hoa City People's Committee, Bien Hoa City Project Management Board and Buu Long Ward People's Committee requesting to temporarily suspend the construction of the Dong Nai River Road Project through the area of Vo Ha Thanh ancient villa.

The Department of Construction said that, through a survey, the location of the ancient villa Vo Ha Thanh is on the right side of the Dong Nai riverside road project (from Hoa An bridge, Bien Hoa city to the border of Vinh Cuu district). The villa was built in 1922 and completed in 1924 with 2 floors, with a stone foundation, reinforced concrete, tiled roof....
This is a private ancient villa with ancient French architecture, built with materials transported from France. It is one of the few ancient French villas still existing in Dong Nai with a fairly good house structure.
However, because the villa is part of the Dong Nai riverside road project, the Dong Nai Department of Construction has proposed plans to preserve the ancient villa and still ensure the project's implementation.
Many options have been proposed to preserve the ancient villa. Photo: DN
Specifically, the first option is to move the villa further inside. Because the villa grounds do not have enough space, the residential area behind must be cleared. This option takes a lot of time and involves legal issues.
Option 2, straightening the road along the Dong Nai River. This option does not require additional land acquisition but only adjusts the design. The Department of Construction said it still ensures that the road will curve smoothly, without sharp turns or bottlenecks.
Option 3, organize a traffic island around the villa, similar to the traffic arrangement of Notre Dame Cathedral in Ho Chi Minh City. This option still requires clearing an additional 3,000m2 of land and adjusting the design and planning.
Option 4 is to build an overpass. This option also requires the acquisition of a large area of land and has high construction costs and a long construction time.
Through the above options, Dong Nai Department of Construction evaluates option 2 of road straightening as the most optimal.
As reported, recently public opinion has been raised about the 100-year-old villa of Governor Vo Ha Thanh, which will soon "only remain in memory" when Dong Nai province authorities have to demolish about 2/3 of the villa because it is located within the scope of the Dong Nai riverside road.
Some historians and public opinion researchers believe that this 100-year-old villa should be preserved by straightening the road; some even propose the solution of inviting the "genie" to move the house out of the clearance area...
At the meeting of the Standing Committee of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee held on September 26, chaired by Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Hong Linh, after listening to reports and discussions from relevant units, the Standing Committee of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee decided to keep the above ancient villa.
The Standing Committee of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee assigned the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee to direct relevant agencies to preserve and promote the cultural, historical and architectural values of the 100-year-old villa. In addition, there are solutions to deploy the Dong Nai riverside road according to the proposed plan, ensuring compliance with legal regulations.
