Disney's "Deadpool & Wolverine" grossed $205 million in North American theaters in its opening weekend and $233.3 million in theaters worldwide. In total, "Deadpool & Wolverine" grossed $438.3 million in its opening weekend, breaking the record for the highest-grossing R-rated film.

With $205 million in North American theaters, "Deadpool & Wolverine" has become the eighth-highest-grossing film debut of all time, surpassing 2018's "Black Panther" ($202 million) and behind 2015's "Jurassic World" ($208 million) and 2012's "The Avengers" ($207 million).

Only nine films in Hollywood history have topped the $200 million mark in their opening weekend. "Deadpool & Wolverine" easily topped 2016's "Deadpool" ($132 million) to set the record for the biggest R-rated opening weekend ever. 2018's "Deadpool 2" is now the third-biggest R-rated debut with $125 million. The latest Marvel blockbuster also topped "Inside Out 2" ($155 million), the first and only $1 billion animated film of 2024 through July.

After three days in theaters, the film starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman has become the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2024. Disney spent about $200 million to produce and about $100 million to promote the film. Box office analysts are assessing whether the third "Deadpool" installment can surpass the $1 billion mark. To date, only one R-rated film has reached $1.07 billion globally: "Joker" in 2019.

This summer also marked a comeback for Disney, which has long been one of Hollywood's dominant studios, but failed to find success in 2023 with a series of underperforming blockbusters such as "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," "The Haunted Mansion" and "Wish." In 2024, "Inside Out 2" surpassed "Frozen 2" to become the highest-grossing animated film in history with $1.5 billion, while "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" grossed nearly $400 million worldwide. Film critics called "Deadpool & Wolverine" "a step in the right direction for Marvel."

With theaters reserving nearly every seat for "Deadpool & Wolverine," last week's box office champion, "Twisters," dropped to second place. To date, "Twisters" has grossed $154.9 million in theaters in North America and $221 million worldwide.

"Deadpool & Wolverine" is the third installment in the "Deadpool" franchise. In the third installment, Deadpool and Wolverine, played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, respectively, receive a mission from the Time Variance Organization (TVA), which, according to the producer, "changes the entire history of the MCU." Initially, the two disagree because of their opposing personalities. After hand-to-hand combat, they reluctantly join hands to protect world peace . The film's supporting cast includes Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, Morena Baccarin,...
