Coming to fix his glasses, a Japanese customer was shocked when he heard the shop owner in Ho Chi Minh City "quote the price"

Recently, a clip appeared on social networks recording a scene of a Japanese tourist coming to a shop in Ho Chi Minh City to have his glasses repaired. When the glasses were repaired, the Japanese customer asked for the price and received a surprising answer from the shop owner.

The owner of the clip, Mr. Naoki Okamura (Japanese nationality), said the incident happened at the end of July, at an optical shop on Hoang Dieu Street (District 4, HCMC).

Mr. Okamura went to Ho Chi Minh City for a vacation . Unfortunately, a screw fell off his glasses. So, he looked for a shop near his place to fix them.

Entering the shop, Okamura communicated with the shop owner in English, stating his request to have his glasses repaired.

"He didn't answer any questions so I wasn't sure if he understood what I was saying. I showed him my broken glasses. About 5 minutes later, the shop owner came back with the repaired glasses.

When I asked for the price, he said "no", which left me very confused. I kept asking and offered to pay or at least give something to the shop owner, but he refused very strongly. Not wanting to disappoint the worker, I thanked him and left," Okamura said.

The male tourist said he was "shocked" by the treatment, as this was not normal in his country. Born and raised in Japan, Okamura said he had never had anything repaired for free, especially when the cause of the damage was his own fault.

"I recorded the incident and posted it on social media to ask other Vietnamese people if this was a normal thing in Vietnam. Amazingly, everyone shared that this was a very normal thing. With hospitality and kindness, most Vietnamese people will not charge money to repair small, simple things that do not require much effort from the worker," Okamura recounted.

After this experience, the Japanese man said he decided to learn Vietnamese so he could easily express his feelings for the Vietnamese people.
