Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen The Anh, Chief of Ngoc My Commune Police, said that the wild bird market on Thang Long Boulevard, through Quoc Oai town, from Hoa Lac to the center of Hanoi, has existed for a long time.

Authorities have repeatedly warned and reminded households.

However, after a period of "disappearance", the market "reappears". At first, people brought chickens and ducks to sell, then gradually added birds and storks advertised as "wild birds".

"Along this spontaneous bird market, there are about 15 households regularly trading chickens, ducks and some wild birds. These people are mainly indigenous people, residing in Ngoc My commune and some neighboring communes of Quoc Oai district.

Previously, people built permanent camps on the roadside to sell goods. After many times of propaganda and reminders from the government, people built carts with cages for ducks, chickens, and wild birds on top to sell," said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen The Anh.

After receiving the article reflecting the Dan Tri newspaper, the Steering Committee 197 of Ngoc My commune directed departments, branches, and organizations to mobilize to clear the entire bird selling area on the Thang Long Boulevard service road, in Ngoc My commune, and dismantle all temporary tents and stalls.

However, afterwards, there were still some households using trailers to transport poultry and birds on the Thang Long Boulevard service road for sale.

To thoroughly resolve the activities of this wild bird market, in the coming time, the Steering Committee 197 of Ngoc My commune will coordinate with the Ngoc My commune police force and the Economic Police Team of Quoc Oai district to regularly patrol, remind, and punish households that deliberately trade and encroach on the sidewalks on the Thang Long Boulevard service road, destroying the landscape and environmental sanitation.

The spontaneous market trading wild birds in Thanh Oai district (Hanoi) was also cleared by authorities.

After the authorities of Ngoc My Commune People's Committee closed the bird market and banned the sale of birds and animals of unknown origin at the market, most of the traders agreed, but they were quite worried about trading in the future.

Mr. T., a merchant, said that merchants here mainly sell chickens and ducks. Depending on the time of year, they also sell wild birds.

"If the government doesn't allow us to do business here anymore, we will comply, but honestly, I'm worried about what I'll do to support my family in the future," said Mr. T.

Previously, sharing with Dan Tri newspaper, a representative of the Vietnam Association for Research and Conservation of Wild Birds said that documents related to the protection of wild birds are already available, but many localities are still implementing them in a defensive manner, "throwing stones at a duckweed pond".

Hunting, extermination and destruction of natural habitats lead to changes in habitats and ecosystems, reducing the number and composition of wild and migratory birds. Some migratory birds have disappeared during the migratory seasons in Vietnam.
