The establishment of the Institute not only marks a new development step of Hanoi National University in the field of high technology but also makes an important contribution to the development of the semiconductor and advanced materials industry in Vietnam.

Important role in innovation ecosystem of Vietnam National University, Hanoi
According to Hanoi National University, the Institute of Semiconductors and Advanced Materials was established with the mission of researching, developing and applying semiconductor technologies and new materials to serve the electronics industry, high technology and related fields.
The Institute will play an important role in the innovation ecosystem of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, closely linking research, training and practical application. The Institute focuses on scientific research and technology development, focusing on basic and applied research on semiconductor materials, nanomaterials, and advanced materials to create products with high application value.
At the same time, it is a destination and a bridge connecting cooperation in training and developing human resources in the semiconductor field for the country; it is a point of intersection connecting with universities and research institutes at home and abroad in training high-quality human resources in the field of semiconductor technology and new materials.
The Institute is also the focal point for international cooperation programs on materials science and semiconductor technology, aiming to make Vietnam one of the research and production centers for advanced materials in the region.

Focus on highly applicable research directions
Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem, Director of the High-Tech and Innovation Park, emphasized that comprehensive research and development (R&D) activities will be deployed to create an innovation ecosystem in the high-tech field, including: Scientific research; Incubation, development, application and transfer of technology; Receiving and transferring knowledge; Consulting on building scientific research projects, market research in related fields; Commercialization of research products; Providing and supporting scientific and technological consulting services; Providing scientific and technological services, regular scientific and technological consulting services for domestic and foreign organizations; Training, coaching and fostering.
The Institute of Semiconductors and Advanced Materials focuses on highly applicable research directions, helping Vietnam catch up with global technology trends: Semiconductor & microchip technology such as Design and manufacture of advanced integrated circuits (IC); MEMS/NEMS technology for smart sensors, microelectromechanical systems; AI chip technology, quantum computing, energy-saving microprocessors; Advanced Materials field includes Nanomaterials and 2D materials (graphene, MoS₂, phosphorene) for electronic, biomedical, and energy applications. Photovoltaic materials (perovskite, OLED, QLED) for display screens, new generation solar energy; Metamaterials, superconducting materials for telecommunications, defense, and medicine.
The Institute's operating model not only focuses on theoretical research but also builds an integrated ecosystem between research - application - training.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem, the Institute is a place for scientists inside and outside Hanoi National University to have an environment to develop research and bring research products into practice soon according to market needs.
The Institute will focus on cutting-edge scientific research, developing core technologies in the production of semiconductor chips, advanced nanomaterials, new-generation batteries, and smart sensors. Not only research and training, the Institute is also a place for practical application and innovative startups through the construction of laboratories, testing centers, supporting research groups in product development, and technology startups in the field of semiconductors and new materials at the Hanoi National University Urban Area in Hoa Lac.
Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem said that the complete research - experiment - application ecosystem right at the High Technology and Innovation Park, Hanoi National University, ensures the ability to implement large-scale research and testing projects.
Advanced equipment for research and manufacturing of semiconductor materials, including: Chip and microcircuit manufacturing and testing system; Laboratory for nanomaterials, 2D materials, and photovoltaic materials; Advanced analysis and simulation systems supporting research on electronic materials and components; Open Lab model to facilitate research groups, businesses, and startups to exploit and promote innovation.
“With a solid foundation in research and training, the Institute promises to be a driving force for innovation and development of science and technology in the coming time, contributing to building the domestic semiconductor industry, reducing dependence on foreign supplies; promoting “Made in Vietnam” technology products, enhancing scientific and economic value in the high-tech field,” Associate Professor Truong Ngoc Kiem emphasized.
