What do teachers teach students about patriotism?

TPO - Many teachers wonder how their students can keep their roots strong on their journey to becoming global citizens? How can each beat of their heart still resonate from the land where they were born?

Teacher Hoang Ha Minh, Executive Director of Westminster AcademyEducation Center (Hanoi): The younger generation needs to continue with responsibility and aspiration.

Today, in the midst of the sunny days of April, when the whole country celebrates the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South, teachers and educators wonder: what story will our young generation continue to write?

The story of a nation that went through war, sacrificing blood and bones for peace . The story of people who are now enjoying that peace as a matter of course. Do you understand that, to be able to sit in brightly lit classrooms, holding open dreams in your hands, how many things have we sacrificed?

During my years of education, I have had the opportunity to accompany many students who have grown up in an international environment. They grow up in a world where there are no more bombs falling, no more evacuation nights, no more lessons on how to keep the oil lamp burning in the shelter. Instead, there are international exams, dreams flying far to wide horizons. I once asked a student who grew up entirely in an international school environment if she had read about April 30 and saw hesitation in her eyes. The algorithms of the social networks she accessed - reflecting her search habits - had unintentionally left out the memories of national history. Not because they were indifferent, but because there were too many things flying across the screen faster than the pages of old books.

I do not blame them. On the contrary, those moments urge me to ask myself: how can they, on their journey to becoming global citizens, still maintain a strong root within themselves? How can each beat still resonate from the land where they were born?

Another time, when guiding a student preparing his application for studying fashion design abroad, I suggested that he exploit the beauty of Vietnamese brocade patterns. Not only to make a difference in his portfolio, but also to help him understand that true creativity is not just imitating what already exists, but knowing how to distill from one's own identity.

Those little moments are like seeds planted in the soil. They may not sprout today, but I believe that one day, amidst the busyness and long trips, they will quietly grow, reminding you where you came from. Remember, in the fierce technology race, when AI can replace humans in many skills, only a heart that loves the homeland and appreciates its roots can make you truly different.

Peace is not a natural thing. Peace is a gift that comes at an immeasurable cost. You may not have to carry guns like your fathers, but you have other responsibilities: to study, to work, to be creative, to build the country with your own talent and heart. The previous generation gave us peace. Your generation must continue with responsibility and aspiration.

One day, when standing in the middle of the world's squares, when signing big contracts, or when leaving creative marks with your name, I hope you will still remember your roots. Because homeland is not only the place of birth, but also the silent strength that supports us, no matter how far we go.

Today, we inherit peace. Tomorrow, the next story will be written by you – with pride, talent, and a strong, enduring love for your country.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, History teacher, Duong Lieu Secondary School, Hanoi: Teaching students to understand more about the history of our country

These days, the nation celebrates the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. I, a history teacher, like many other children of the heroic Vietnamese land, feel very proud of the glorious and proud history of the nation.

The victory of the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign, continued the glorious history of the nation and is a shining symbol of the indomitable spirit of a small but brave nation.

50 years have passed, the country has changed dramatically, but the memory of April 30, 1975, the day of the Ho Chi Minh campaign's complete victory, will never fade in the minds of every Vietnamese person. The 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country is not only an opportunity for us to review the glorious history of the nation, but also an opportunity for us to express our gratitude to the soldiers who fell and left behind "forever 20 years old" on the battlefield, those who sacrificed their blood and bones for the independence and freedom of the country.

Vietnam has gone through so much pain and loss, but has also been resilient and "rose from the mud to shine brightly" many times. I have strong faith in one thing: Our people and our country will forever exist and develop more and more!

As a history teacher, I want to impart to my students a lot of knowledge about the history of our country, to make them more proud of the Vietnamese people. If students of the 8x generation still study history according to the old method: Listening to teachers and memorizing historical events.

Nowadays, with the innovation in textbooks, teaching methods and techniques, students have become more proactive in the process of acquiring knowledge. Students are able to learn some information about the content of the lesson in advance; to present their feelings, views, opinions, and assessments of a historical figure, historical event... and to participate in games. Students play a major role in acquiring and mastering knowledge. And I believe that students will not turn their backs on the history of their country.
