Barcelona increases salary 10 times, 'ties' Lamine Yamal until 2031

TPO - Barcelona has just completed a contract extension with young talent Lamine Yamal until June 2031, with a salary increase of about 10 times, putting him in the group of highest paid players at the club.

As of now (May 2025), Lamine Yamal's basic salary at Barcelona is around 1.82 million USD. This salary is set in the first professional contract in October 2023 and is valid until June 2026.

However, due to his impressive performances and increasingly important role in the squad, Barcelona decided to "tie down" Yamal until 2031, when he turns 23.

Accordingly, Yamal's basic salary will increase to 17 million USD per year, and can reach 23 million USD if he completes professional targets.

This new contract will officially take effect when Yamal turns 18 on July 13, due to age regulations in signing long-term contracts.

With the new salary, Yamal becomes the third highest paid player at the club, after Robert Lewandowski ($29 million) and Frenkie de Jong ($22 million).

Notably, the $1.1 billion buyout clause remains in place, a strong statement of Barcelona's "no-sell-at-any-cost" stance.

Previously, Barcelona had rejected a $230 million offer from PSG to keep Yamal. President Joan Laporta has long considered the 2007-born star to be the central figure in the team's revival plan.

Not yet 18, Yamal already has an impressive trophy collection: a Euro championship, two La Liga titles and many more. He is also expected to become the youngest player to win the Ballon d'Or, breaking the record set by Ronaldo Nazario at 21.

Last season, Yamal was Barcelona's most outstanding star. According to Whoscored, he achieved an average rating of 8.01 - the highest among players playing in Europe's top leagues.

The long-term contract extension and salary increase for Yamal not only helps Barcelona retain the best young talent from La Masia, but also affirms the ambition of the team that has won the Champions League five times to regain its position.
