On May 28, the People's Committee of Hue City said that it had sent a document to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) regarding the establishment of a Council to assess the status and propose a plan to preserve and restore the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty throne.
According to the Hue City People's Committee, there are currently no specific guidelines on the establishment of a Council to evaluate and propose plans for the preservation and restoration of national treasures. Therefore, to ensure a scientific and comprehensive assessment and propose appropriate and effective preservation and restoration plans, the Hue City People's Committee requests the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over the establishment of a Council or issue a document authorizing the Hue City People's Committee to preside over the implementation.
Regarding the composition of the Council, the Hue City People's Committee plans to invite prestigious experts in the field of cultural heritage, along with representatives of state management agencies and professional units to participate.
Director of Hue City Department of Culture and Sports - Mr. Phan Thanh Hai - said that this agency has consulted a list of 11 members to participate in the council, including experts in research and preservation of antiques from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hue.
According to Mr. Hai, the experts have agreed to participate. It is expected that if the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism agrees, the Council will hold a meeting this weekend.
As Lao Dong reported, at noon on May 24, Ho Van Phuong T (born in 1983, residing in Hue City) suddenly jumped over the fence, trespassed on the national treasure area of the Nguyen Dynasty throne at Thai Hoa Palace, sat on the throne, took off his shirt and smashed it, causing the left armrest to break.
Security forces restrained and handed T over to Hue City Police. Tam was once sent to a compulsory drug rehabilitation facility and is currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
On May 25, the Government Office conveyed the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh, requesting the People's Committee of Hue City to urgently assess the situation, propose a plan to preserve and restore the throne according to regulations; at the same time, review and handle the responsibilities of related individuals and organizations.
