On January 11, Ho Chi Minh City National University announced the opening date for registration for the 2024 capacity assessment exam.
Round 1, candidates register for the exam from January 22 to March 4. The results of round 2 will be announced on June 10, 2024.
The first round of the exam will be held on April 7, 2024 in 24 provinces and cities, including: Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Tien Giang , Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, An Giang, Can Tho, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, Thua Thien - Hue, Binh Phuoc and Tay Ninh.
The results of the first round will be announced on April 15.
Phase 2 will be held on June 2, 2024 in 12 provinces and cities, including: Ho Chi Minh City, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Binh Duong , Tien Giang, An Giang.

According to the Center for Testing and Assessment of Training Quality at Ho Chi Minh City National University, the Competency Assessment Test focuses on assessing candidates' basic university-level competencies such as language use, logical thinking, data processing, and problem solving.
In terms of format, the test consists of 120 multiple-choice objective questions with a test time of 150 minutes.
The structure of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment test consists of 3 parts: Language use; mathematics, logical thinking, data analysis and problem solving to assess candidates' basic competencies for university study.
The test focuses on assessing the candidate's reasoning and problem-solving abilities, not his or her ability to memorize.
From 2018 to 2023, the number of candidates registering for the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam is increasing. Specifically, in 2018, nearly 5,000 candidates from 616 high schools registered for the exam.
In 2023, more than 100,000 candidates from 1,815 high schools registered to take the exam. The number of registrations in 2023 increased by 9% compared to 2022 and increased by more than 50% compared to 2021.
In addition, the National University's competency assessment exam has also expanded its coordination. In 2018, the exam was organized within the Ho Chi Minh City National University with 7 member universities; in 2023, 47 universities and colleges nationwide participated in coordinating the organization of the exam.
Besides, the number of schools using the results of this exam also increased, from 7 schools in 2018 to 97 schools in 2023.
