VNU has just issued a decision to assign tasks and provide funding to support training, scientific research, talent development and development of basic science majors at the University of Natural Sciences, with a total budget of up to 18.35 billion VND in the 2025-2026 school year. This is the additional funding for the University of Natural Sciences to increase the level of support for ongoing activities.

According to this decision, the University of Natural Sciences is assigned by VNU to take the lead in organizing and implementing tasks to support training, scientific research and talent development, according to the principle of giving maximum priority to direct expenditures for learners (students, postgraduates, researchers) and scientists (lecturers, researchers).

Accordingly, the work to support the training of talented science bachelors is expected to provide scholarships for successful candidates with an additional support of 5 million VND/student for 5 months and provide support funds to double the level that the school is currently spending on scholarships to encourage learning and support teaching hours for lecturers.

Basic science training and research activities are also enhanced with a scholarship policy to attract excellent students of 10 million VND/scholarship for 10 months; financial support of 500 million VND/major for scientific research activities at the faculty, school level, practical internships, and practice of students in basic science majors.

VNU also invests in the University of Natural Sciences to support the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences to train teams of excellent students and support logistics when participating in international Olympic competitions.

In parallel, postgraduate training and research are also given priority in funding to provide scholarships to support tuition fees for doctoral students (50 million VND/scholarship/year) and graduate students (30 million VND/scholarship/year), contributing to the development of a high-quality young research team.

In addition, VNU also spends 500 million VND/year to provide tuition scholarships for students participating in the talent incubation program (VNU12+), encouraging the discovery and nurturing of talents from high school. In addition to direct support for lecturers teaching the VNU12+ program, VNU also invests in scientific research activities of instructors and students participating in the VNU12+ program in the form of scientific research topics and projects of students.

Previously, on June 6, at a working session with the University of Natural Sciences, VNU Director Le Quan emphasized that developing basic sciences is not only a strategic task but also a unique identity of the University of Natural Sciences as well as the entire VNU. Prioritizing investment in sustainable academic development will contribute to improving the capacity to master technology and affirm the academic position of the university. VNU is committed to accompanying in creating a favorable environment, mechanism and allocating resources for the university to fulfill these missions well.

In addition, VNU has assigned the University of Natural Sciences to urgently develop a plan for the development of the basic science sector for the period 2026 - 2031, clearly identifying key contents towards in-depth investment, elite training and attracting excellent scientists. The University needs to complete 3 major projects, including: developing a High School for Natural Sciences; training and incubating excellent scientists; developing basic science majors according to the characteristics of each field. These projects will be submitted to VNU for approval in June 2025 to be integrated into the unit's long-term plan.
