COVID-19 epidemic today: New cases increase again

Regarding the COVID-19 epidemic situation today , the Ministry of Health said that from 4:00 p.m. on March 20 to 4:00 p.m. on March 21, the whole country recorded 11 cases, an increase compared to the previous day.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Vietnam has had 11,527,157 infections, ranking 13th out of 230 countries and territories. During the day, 4 more patients were announced to be cured, bringing the total number of cured cases to 10,614,861. The number of patients currently on oxygen is 5.

Vietnam has recorded no deaths from COVID-19 for 80 consecutive days. The total number of deaths from COVID-19 in Vietnam to date is 43,186, accounting for 0.4% of the total number of infections.

On March 20, 13,083 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were injected. Thus, the total number of doses of vaccine injected is 265,922,549 doses.

According to the Ministry of Health , the epidemic is forecast to continue to develop unpredictably in the coming time. After three years of the COVID-19 epidemic, the vaccination rate has not reached the desired level. The number of unvaccinated children is still high, immunity is reduced, and vaccine-preventable diseases are at risk of increasing.

Dengue fever is also likely to increase with the forecast of an early rainy season, increased rainfall and the risk of introduction of the virus. Dangerous emerging infectious diseases such as monkeypox pose a risk of introduction and spread in the country.

The Ministry of Health requested the People's Committees of provinces and cities to urgently approve plans to prevent and control infectious diseases; allocate funds, ensure resources and mobilize the participation of departments, branches, unions and socio-political organizations in epidemic prevention and control work.
