Infrastructure highlights for socio-economic development

Streams of large and small cars are constantly circulating from the starting point of National Highway 1A in Hoang Phu commune, passing Xuan Quang bridge over the Ma River to get on the North-South Expressway, spreading to regions of the country. Since being put into use in early 2025, the project "Road connecting National Highway 1A with National Highway 45 from Hoang Kim commune (Hoang Hoa) to Thieu Long commune (Thieu Hoa)" has not only contributed to relieving traffic pressure on National Highway 1A but also connected the separation of the two banks of the Ma River for many generations. Many large areas of land on the left bank of the province's largest river in the old districts such as: Thach Thanh, Vinh Loc, Thieu Hoa, Cam Thuy... can also easily reach the expressway through many traffic routes connecting with this new road project.

Infrastructure highlights for socio-economic development

Xuan Quang Bridge and the Project "Road connecting National Highway 1A with National Highway 45 from Hoang Kim Commune (Hoang Hoa) to Thieu Long Commune (Thieu Hoa)" (now connecting Hoang Phu Commune with Thieu Quang Commune) not only contribute to relieving traffic pressure on National Highway 1A but also connect the two banks of the Ma River.

According to the Thanh Hoa Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, the project "Road connecting National Highway 1A with National Highway 45 from Hoang Kim commune (Hoang Hoa) to Thieu Long commune (Thieu Hoa)" has a total investment of more than 1,423 billion VND, with a length of 14.6km, and was started in October 2022. The entire route is invested with a roadbed width of 12m, a road surface width of 11m; there are 6 bridges on the route, including 2 large bridges: Xuan Quang bridge, 1,028m long, crossing the Ma River, and the North-South expressway overpass in the East, more than 310m long. After nearly 10 months of being put into use, the traffic project invested from the provincial budget has clearly promoted its effectiveness, increasing inter-regional connectivity for sustainable socio -economic development.

At the same time in February 2025, the "Van Thien Road to Ben En" project was also inaugurated and put into use after more than 2 years of construction through many complex terrains. This modern traffic route, more than 12km long, plays a role in connecting the old Nhu Thanh and Nhu Xuan districts with the North-South expressway through the Van Thien intersection. The mountainous and remote areas of the old Nong Cong and Nhu Thanh districts are now "opened up", erasing the "isolation" and difficult trade of the low-lying and mountainous areas that were previously considered remote. Experiencing this 4-lane road with a lane width of up to 33m, it only takes about 10 minutes by car to easily move from the Van Thien expressway intersection to the center of Nhu Thanh commune. A large mountainous area belonging to Ben En National Park and the old Nhu Xuan district is also easily connected to this route via National Highway 45 and Ben Sung - Xuan Thai road, opening up new development space.

In the period of 2020-2025, many key traffic routes connecting areas of the province have been invested in such as: North - South Expressway, the road connecting Thanh Hoa City (old) with Tho Xuan Airport, the road connecting from North - South Expressway (Thieu Giang intersection) with National Highway 45 (Thieu Hoa commune) and National Highway 1A (Hoang Phu commune), Van Thien - Ben En road... According to statistics from the Department of Construction, with many efforts, over the past 5 years, Thanh Hoa has mobilized a total of more than 700 trillion VND for infrastructure development for socio-economic development, mainly for traffic infrastructure.

Along with that, Nghi Son seaport infrastructure system continues to be invested and completed with 35 wharves, goods passing through the port reach 46 million tons/year. Nghi Son seaport plays the role of a national general port, turning Thanh Hoa into a gateway for goods trading with domestic and international regions. During the past term, Tho Xuan Airport also invested in upgrading and completing infrastructure according to the plan. Currently, the port is operating over 1.3 million passengers/year, striving to become an international airport before 2030.

The Resolution of the 19th Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Congress, term 2020-2025, identified "infrastructure development as one of the three strategic breakthroughs". Right from the beginning of the term, the Provincial Party Standing Committee issued Action Plan No. 26-KH/TU focusing on directing the synchronous implementation of tasks and solutions for infrastructure development, becoming a consistent orientation. Accordingly, the province, sectors and localities all identified infrastructure development as playing a particularly important role, as a premise to promote socio-economic development. Since then, the province's socio-economic infrastructure system has developed in a synchronous and modern direction.

Another highlight is that the province's power supply and transmission infrastructure has been widely invested and developed over the past 5 years, meeting the needs of economic development and people's daily life. Up to now, 100% of communes, villages and hamlets in the province have access to the national grid. The whole province currently has 11 hydropower plants and 2 thermal power plants in operation with a total capacity of over 3,000 MW. Thanh Hoa is also implementing investment procedures for LNG, wind power and solar power projects, becoming one of the energy centers of the country. Along with that, the infrastructure of economic zones and industrial parks has been invested in increasingly synchronously, helping the province reap many achievements in attracting investment. Over the past 5 years, Nghi Son Economic Zone and the province's industrial parks have attracted 179 direct investment projects, including 41 FDI projects, with a total registered capital of 104,878 billion VND and 613 million USD. Enterprises here have contributed back to the State budget with an estimated revenue of 123,501 billion VND, accounting for 52.8% of the province's total revenue.

Modern infrastructure in many fields has made an important contribution to Thanh Hoa's socio-economic development. According to data from the Provincial People's Committee, in the 2021-2025 period, the average GRDP growth rate of the whole province is estimated at 10.24%/year, ranking 4th in the country and 3rd in the group of 10 provinces and cities with the largest economic scale (calculated by administrative boundaries before the merger). In 2025, the province's GRDP scale is expected to reach 357,760 billion VND, 1.9 times higher than in 2020, ranking 8th in the country. Since then, people's quality of life and social indicators have been improved; the province's GRDP per capita in 2025 is estimated at 3,750 USD, 1.7 times higher than in 2020.
