On the morning of September 17, the Office of the National Assembly held a press conference to inform about the Vietnam Socio-Economic Forum 2023.

The Socio-Economic Forum is an annual activity of the National Assembly. Having been held twice since the beginning of the term, the Forum has attracted great attention from society, people and the domestic and foreign business community as well as news agencies, newspapers, domestic and international organizations, central and local.

In 2023, in the context of the world economy facing many difficulties and challenges, many major economies, including Vietnam's important trade and investment partners, slowed down their growth and even fell into recession. In the country, although the macro economy remained stable, economic growth faced many difficulties, some growth drivers declined; the monetary, financial, and real estate markets contained many risks; production, business activities, and the labor market faced many difficulties.

Faced with such a context, it is necessary to have short-term response solutions and long-term strategic fundamental solutions; solutions to enhance endogenous capacity, create growth momentum to help the country take advantage of opportunities, respond to and overcome challenges, unleash resources and promote growth and sustainable development.

Strengthening and promoting internal resources, removing obstacles and difficulties, utilizing external resources effectively and promptly, and strongly promoting growth drivers are important tasks for national development.

From that perspective, the content "Enhancing endogenous capacity, creating momentum for growth and sustainable development" was chosen as the theme for the 2023 Socio-Economic Forum.

According to information from the press conference, the Vietnam Socio-Economic Forum 2023 will be held on September 19 at the National Convention Center. The National Assembly's Economic Committee is assigned to preside over and coordinate with the Central Economic Committee, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences to organize the Forum.

The Vietnam Socio-Economic Forum 2023 will focus on exchanging and discussing major groups of specific contents: Clarifying the international context; tensions, conflicts, geo-economic shift trends and new challenges to the recovery and development of the world economy; economic policies of major countries, Vietnam's main trading partners and their impacts on Vietnam.

At the same time, comprehensively and objectively assess the current state of the Vietnamese economy in 2023 and the 3-year period of 2021-2023. Identify bottlenecks and barriers to socio-economic development, including issues of input and output markets, investment, export and consumption of the economy, barriers to businesses, real estate market, financial and monetary market; science and technology, innovation, education and training, labor and employment, health care, social security and short-term and long-term policies and solutions.

Review and evaluate the implementation of resolutions of the National Assembly and the National Assembly Standing Committee in the past time, especially Resolution No. 43/2022/QH15 on fiscal policy, monetary policy to support the Socio-Economic Recovery and Development Program; resolutions on the Socio-Economic Development Plan for 2023 and the 5-year period 2021-2025 and a number of other related resolutions... in which the results achieved, shortcomings, limitations and lessons learned are clarified.

Discover and propose development potentials and spaces; at the same time, propose solutions and policies to unlock resources, create driving forces to promote growth and socio-economic development, and respond to new challenges and issues, and take advantage of new opportunities; clarify priorities on a number of key areas in the principles, methods, and approaches to macroeconomic management as well as in recovering and promoting socio-economic growth and development, striving for the highest goals and tasks set.

The opinions and discussions at the Forum will be a useful source of information providing more scientific and practical arguments for the Nationalities Council and the National Assembly's committees to examine the contents within their functions; and an important source of input information for National Assembly deputies to consider and decide on important issues of the country at the upcoming 6th Session of the 15th National Assembly.

The Forum is organized in both in-person and online formats. In addition to the main bridge at the National Convention Center, the Forum also connects with a number of bridges of academies, universities, speakers, and scientists. About 400 - 450 delegates are expected to attend in person. National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue will deliver an opening speech and direct the Forum.
