'Electricity price adjustment must have a roadmap, not create shock'

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has been inspecting and reviewing EVN's annual retail electricity price plan, ensuring that the adjusted electricity price reflects the cost of electricity production and business and is appropriate.

At the regular press conference held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on October 8, in response to a reporter's question about whether there would be any adjustments to the electricity price mechanism in the near future following the proposal to recalculate electricity prices by the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), Mr. Bui Quoc Hung, Deputy Director of the Electricity Department, said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued documents directing EVN to synchronously implement solutions to improve corporate governance efficiency, ensuring cost savings and efficiency in production and business activities.

"The Ministry of Industry and Trade also directed EVN to have a roadmap for adjusting prices step by step, appropriately, without creating shocks or jerks," Mr. Hung said.

According to Mr. Hung, in case of adjusting the average retail electricity price, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requires EVN to closely coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to promptly and effectively carry out information and communication work, especially on the necessity, guidelines, policies and price management work of the Government , creating consensus and support from businesses and people and controlling inflation expectations.

In addition, according to the provisions of Decree No. 72/2025/ND-CP dated March 28, 2025 of the Government regulating the mechanism and time for adjusting the average retail electricity price, the Ministry of Industry and Trade shall inspect and review EVN's annual and annual retail electricity price plan, ensuring that the electricity price that needs to be adjusted reflects the cost of electricity production and business and is in accordance with its authority based on the assessment of the impact on the macro economy , business production and people's lives.
