Businesses proactively respond to rising electricity prices

There are currently over 2,800 enterprises registered for production and business activities in the province. Through review, there are currently 12 enterprises in the group of large key energy-consuming enterprises such as: Tuyen Quang Iron and Steel Company Limited, An Hoa Paper Joint Stock Company, Tan Quang Cement Joint Stock Company, Tuyen Quang Cement Joint Stock Company... The fact that Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) adjusted the average retail electricity price from May 10, 2025 with an increase of 4.8%, to 2,103.11 VND/kWh has more or less affected the production costs of enterprises in the province. Because electricity costs account for about 10 - 15% of product costs.

To cope with rising electricity prices, many businesses have proactively installed solar renewable energy equipment at Thang Quan Industrial Park (Yen Son).

An Hoa Paper Joint Stock Company, Long Binh An Industrial Park (Tuyen Quang City) is one of the units with large electricity consumption in the province. According to Mr. Hoang Minh Son, Administrative - Human Resources Director, An Hoa Paper Joint Stock Company, with modern machinery lines, large capacity, high automation, each month, the enterprise spends more than 200 million VND on electricity. The 4.8% increase in electricity price means that each month the enterprise has to pay an additional amount of electricity. To cope with the high electricity price, the company has implemented many solutions, including investing in a biomass power plant with a capacity of 20 MW to serve the factory's production, and at the same time considering using renewable energy sources using the factory roof with an area of over 40,000 m2 to install rooftop solar power to serve the factory's production and business. In addition, the company also focuses on directing workshops to reduce lighting electricity output, production lines must always run at full load to cut down on production costs, regularly check equipment and machinery to avoid wasting monthly electricity consumption...

For Tuyen Quang Iron and Steel Company Limited, on average, the Company spends more than 250 million VND on electricity each month. Now the price has increased by 4.8%, meaning that each month it incurs more than 12 million VND for this cost. To adapt, the Company has increased electricity saving and anti-waste solutions such as: Turning off electrical equipment in all departments and factories when not in use, replacing all 300W light bulbs with 75W energy-saving LED bulbs. Along with that, optimizing machinery and equipment, production lines, such as: Using steel rolling technology lines without having to heat billets, replacing mechanical processing lines with CNC machines... Thereby helping to save 15 - 20% of electricity consumption/month in production.

Tan Quang Cement Joint Stock Company also seriously implements energy saving. In the context of high electricity prices, the company has established a team to assist in energy saving. In addition to replacing LED lighting systems and hiring energy auditors, this enterprise also strengthens the implementation of production plans to avoid peak hours from 9am to 11am and from 5pm to 8pm every day. For machine systems that can reduce operating time, they will cut it during peak hours.

Implement energy saving solutions

Mr. Nguyen Huu Thap, Chairman of the Provincial Business Association, said: Many businesses have recommended that the State should have more incentive mechanisms to support businesses to invest in modern machinery and equipment that consume less energy. State management agencies have macro and fundamental solutions to unblock the construction and real estate markets; along with that, strictly control commodity prices in the market to ensure price stability, publicity and transparency, and avoid price increases due to increased retail electricity prices affecting business operations. In addition, the Electricity industry needs to ensure stable, safe and efficient electricity supply...

Mr. Tran Xuan Hao, Deputy Director of Tuyen Quang Electricity Company, recommends: To save electricity, businesses need to optimize the power system, regularly clean and maintain machinery and equipment, replace low-efficiency equipment and old technology; strengthen internal power saving, and build awareness of power saving in businesses. The electricity industry encourages customers to participate in the load shifting (DR) program, which means reducing electricity use during peak hours, or shifting electricity use from peak hours to off-peak hours, contributing to ensuring electricity supply, improving power quality and reliability of power supply. At the same time, using renewable energy, installing and integrating renewable energy sources such as self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power systems into the internal energy system; There are solutions to utilize natural light during work, replace electric bulbs, etc. Thereby contributing to reducing difficulties in power sources, ensuring the power grid system operates stably and safely.

Effectively implementing energy efficiency measures not only helps businesses reduce production and business costs, thereby improving product competitiveness, but also helps reduce CO2 emissions into the environment. Using energy economically also contributes to promoting the socio -economic development of the province, joining hands to ensure national energy security, towards the goal of green growth and sustainable development.
