Dortmund's key striker Serhou Guirassy shone brightly with a double against Monterrey in the 14th and 24th minutes. Notably, the assist for both Guirassy's goals was Adeyemi.
Guirassy is Dortmund's top scorer in the 2024/25 season with 35 goals in 48 matches in all competitions.
After Guirassy's double, Dortmund had a big advantage in the first half. Meanwhile, Monterrey also increased their attack speed and created many dangerous opportunities. However, Monterrey's strikers did not take advantage of the opportunities.
In the 28th minute, Jobe Bellingham, Jude Bellingham's younger brother, was booked for a foul. This means he will be suspended for the next match against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
In the second half, Monterrey increased their attacks to find an equalizer. The Mexican representative rekindled hope with Berterame's goal in the 48th minute.
After conceding the goal, Dortmund made changes to strengthen their defense. Attacking players like Bellingham and Adeyemi were both taken off, and defender Yan Couto and midfielder Marcel Sabitzer came on.
In the remaining minutes, Monterrey controlled the ball thoroughly, but all the attacking arrangements were predictable and were broken by Dortmund.
A 2-1 win over Monterrey secured Dortmund's place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™. The Bundesliga side will face Real Madrid on July 6.
