After two years of construction and overcoming many difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the new operating facility of the National Innovation Center (NIC) located in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park is expected to be inaugurated in October 2023. After being put into operation, NIC will have two operating facilities including NIC Hanoi (D25 Ton That Thuyet Street) and NIC Hoa Lac.
According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment , NIC is an agency under the Ministry established under Decree No. 94/2020/ND-CP of the Government, with the function of developing an innovation and startup ecosystem, contributing to renewing the growth model on the basis of innovation, science and technology and new business models; supporting and improving the innovation and digital transformation capacity of enterprises to increase labor productivity and competitiveness of the economy.
With a total working floor area of nearly 20,000 m2 , including two working blocks and an international conference center block, NIC Hoa Lac is the largest innovation space in Vietnam with many special incentive mechanisms to attract large technology corporations, enterprises, prestigious support and incubator organizations in the world, and domestic and foreign intellectual experts.
This will also be an environment to promote innovation, effectively promoting the role of a leading center, an important link in the system of innovation centers to perfect the creative startup ecosystem.
Promoting the establishment of NIC Hoa Lac demonstrates the strong determination of the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the attention and direction of the Government leaders, aiming to make Vietnam an upper middle-income country by 2030, and a high-income developed country by 2045. To realize this aspiration, innovation is certainly an indispensable keyword.
This is a time of innovation associated with the saying "To be or not to be" for the economy and country of Vietnam.
Vietnam is entering an unprecedented stage with development ambitions like today. According to the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2022 ranking announced by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Vietnam is assessed to have the highest innovation capacity among developing countries, ranked 48/132 countries and economies, holding the fourth position in Southeast Asia after Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
Vietnam's innovative startup ecosystem is ranked 54th in the world and 12th in the Asia-Pacific region in 2022 (according to Startup Blink). These rankings demonstrate Vietnam's potential and resilience in the context of many difficulties and challenges facing the country.
