"Red address"
According to documents provided by the Pa Vay Su Commune Cultural Office, in early 1952, the 148th Regiment Art Troupe was ordered to march from Lao Cai to Ha Giang to serve propaganda and artistic work. In the places the Troupe visited, in addition to performing, the Troupe also carried out mass mobilization work focusing on propagating the Party's and Uncle Ho's policies to the people of all ethnic groups; guiding people in disease prevention hygiene, helping families with sick or lonely members...
After three months of service in Ha Giang with about 60 performances, in mid-July 1952, the Art Troupe was ordered to return to Lao Cai province to serve the congress. On the way back, the troupe stopped to rest in Nan Ma village, was ambushed by the enemy and heroically sacrificed. The war has long since ended, but the story of the battle between the members of the Art Troupe and the enemy is always mentioned and the place where the soldiers sacrificed their lives was invested in by the Party Committee and the government of Xin Man district, Ha Giang province (old) to build a Memorial Area for the Heroes and Martyrs, the Propaganda Group, Regiment 148 - Nan Ma Historical Relic. Nan Ma Historical Relic was ranked as a Provincial Historical Relic by the People's Committee of Ha Giang province (old) in 2016 and was recognized as a National Relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism under Decision 3549 in November 2024. Since its construction, this place has become a red address for propaganda, educating revolutionary traditions for the young generation and developing local tourism.
The countryside changes every day
Nan Ma village has 159 households, home to 100% Mong ethnic people. Mr. Giang Seo Sung, Head of Nan Ma village, smiled and shared: “Living in this historical land, the villagers are always very proud and determined to improve their lives. Thanks to the attention of the Party and the State and the awareness of the need to change their mindset in economic development, many households have become well-off, built solid houses, their children have received a full education and contributed practically to sustainable hunger eradication and poverty reduction”.
In addition to focusing on economic development, the people in the village also actively participate in building new rural areas, preserving the national cultural identity, eliminating backward customs and building a civilized lifestyle. Up to now, there are no more cases of early marriage or incestuous marriage in the village; 100% of school-age students are fully educated; 100% of the people agree to reduce the time for organizing funerals, not to contribute gifts in the form of livestock and to put the deceased in a coffin; not to ask for high dowry... The infrastructure in the village is solidly and spaciously built; the traffic routes are all concreted cleanly, ensuring that people can travel and transport agricultural products conveniently. Thanks to that, the rural appearance in Nan Ma village has changed significantly.
Vice Chairwoman of Pa Vay Su Commune People's Committee, Vuong Thi Huong said: "The Nan Ma historical relic has been ranked as a provincial and national historical relic, bringing great pride and honor to the people of Nan Ma village. It is an important driving force to help the village change positively, develop sustainably, and preserve culture and educate revolutionary traditions for future generations."
With determination to overcome difficulties, Nan Ma village is gradually becoming a bright spot in the economic and cultural development of Pa Vay Su border commune. These changes not only bring a prosperous life to the people, but also contribute to preserving and appreciating the historical value of their homeland.
