I recently switched to an Android tablet under 10 inches. The REDMAGIC Astra was originally made for gaming. However, even without its main function, it is still a convenient device for entertainment and content consumption.
Based on my personal needs, the sub-10-inch size like the Astra is the “gold” when I buy a tablet. Expanding to larger options always requires accessories, becomes less portable, and doesn’t do much more. Apple’s iPad Mini has been monopolizing the segment for too long, while Android manufacturers have been underinvesting in this segment.
Tablets need to be large
Tablets are the technology products that most easily make users “disillusioned” after owning them. The reality will not be like in the advertising videos or the prospect of taking the product to a coffee shop, entertaining and still working. In recent years, manufacturers have sought to expand the size, enlarging the device to 11-14 inches, not inferior to laptops. Currently, the only standout in this segment is the iPad Mini, and Xiaomi has just joined the market with the Pad Mini. But overall, compared to large tablets, users have few compact options.
The REDMAGIC Astra is built for gaming, but it's good enough for most needs. Instead of trying to turn a tablet into a half-baked work product, it's good at doing what phones lack.
With a 9-inch, 16:10 display, the model can be held in the palm of the hand. It is longer but narrower than the iPad Mini, which is good for the Internet video content that is being created in portrait orientation. The Astra is not too heavy, the corners are curved and easy to hold in any position. Even lying down and holding it with one hand is not too difficult.

In terms of functionality, it is larger for viewing content. Not so large that videos break up when viewed too close, the device is like a moderately enlarged version of mobile apps. Therefore, compatibility issues, poor optimization of Android tablet apps do not affect the experience.
The size is also perfect for viewing documents. Many PDFs or presentations that are too small to read on a phone are more comfortable on a tablet screen. The OLED panel, deep blacks and 165 Hz also make this product especially suitable for me to read books at night. It is light, convenient and compatible with ebook formats.
Gaming Ability
In addition to consuming content, compact tablets are also good for gaming. For this task, large tablets are not suitable because they are difficult to hold for a long time and are too heavy. Phones are light, but have limited operating space, making it difficult to play games that require a lot of hand manipulation.
Therefore, a tablet model like REDMAGIC Astra becomes suitable. The product is also supplemented by the manufacturer with supporting tools such as liquid metal radiators and separate fans to push heat out, maintaining performance when working hard. REDMAGIC adds professional support tools such as adjusting ratio, attaching external accessories or plugging in the power directly when using. These are all functions that help the owner have an advantage when using for competition purposes.
However, the product's not-too-large size also limits the battery. The Astra model has a better battery life than a regular phone, not reaching the 2-3 days of use like the iPad Pro. Due to the limited size, the device also has little space to arrange components. The product only has dual speakers, not too detailed despite the high volume. The body also does not have a supporting trigger key like the REDMAGIC phone.
Priced at 14.5 million VND in Vietnam, the product is a choice for customers who understand their needs. This is not a device for work purposes, simulating a laptop. It is simply a solution for consuming content, entertainment better than a phone, especially for gaming.
At this price range, users will have to consider the iPad Mini, which is more familiar and safer. But Apple's product is not optimized for gaming because it uses an old chip and has limited heat dissipation. Xiaomi Pad Mini is also another small screen option on the market. However, Xiaomi has a lower configuration and screen.
