The Vietnamese team just beat Daegu 2-0 a few days ago but this team has not been able to put out its strongest lineup. The reason is that they have to play 2 play-off matches to compete for a place in the K.League 1 next season with Asan Mugunghwa.
In the first leg before meeting the Vietnamese team, Daegu FC fell into a difficult position against the K.League 2 representative.
They were down 3-1 in the first half. In the second half, Daegu FC lost another goal and were down 1-4. With nothing left to lose, Daegu FC went on the attack. Their efforts paid off. Lee Eun Beom scored an own goal, Cesar scored a goal to help Daegu end the match with only 1 goal lost.
Deagu FC escaped at the last minute.
In the return match on December 1, Daegu FC continued to have "heart-stopping" moments against Asan Mugunghwa. Cesar dos Santos and Edgar scored 2 goals in a row. If they could maintain the 2-0 score, Daegu would have successfully stayed in the league. However, Asan Mugunghwa reduced the score to 1-2 in the 90+8 minute. The two teams entered extra time with the total score tied at 5-5.
In the 94th minute, Lee Chan-dong scored the winning goal 3-1 for Daegu FC.
Another opponent of the Vietnamese team, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, also had to participate in the relegation play-off. Their opponent was Seoul E-land, the former team of Nguyen Van Toan. Unlike Daegu FC, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors showed their class and won 2-1. There will be a return match but if they play at their best, the former K.League 1 champion will stay in the league.
The Vietnamese team won all three friendly matches in Korea. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team scored six goals and conceded one. The coach born in 1976 achieved many important results and partly built the framework for the Vietnamese team at the ASEAN Cup 2024.
The Vietnamese team will return home on December 3. Coach Kim Sang-sik will finalize the list of 26 players participating in the tournament two days later. The Vietnamese team is in Group B with Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Laos.
