The achievements at the 2023 Asian Championship helped the Vietnamese women's team enter the top 40 in the rankings of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). Even after suffering three consecutive losses, the Vietnamese team still maintained their 40th position, up 7 places from before the tournament.
Thailand (ranked 14th), China (6th) and Japan (8th) are all strong teams. Therefore, when losing to these opponents, the Vietnamese team did not lose many points. Notably, in the third-place match against Japan, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team only lost 2-3 and lost 0.01 points.
Vietnam women's volleyball team maintains position in the world top 40.
The Vietnamese women's team ranked 5th in Asia. The top teams in the continent were China, Japan, Thailand, Kazakhstan and South Korea. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates faced 4 of these teams in the Asian championship, only Kazakhstan was in a different group and bracket.
The Vietnamese team won against South Korea with a score of 3-2 in the first round. This was an important premise for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team to gain the right to enter the second round and advance to the semi-finals of the tournament, finishing fourth overall. This is the first time Vietnamese volleyball has gone so far in the Asian championship.
In the second round, the Vietnamese team lost to Thailand with a score of 1-3. In the semi-final against China, Thanh Thuy and her teammates lost 0-3. In the third-place match against Japan, the Vietnamese team played well and had a chance to win but still lost with a score of 2-3.
Today (September 7), the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will return home to continue training in preparation for the 19th ASIAD (Hangzhou, China). Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet has just announced good news when Tran Thi Thanh Thuy was allowed by her club in Japan to participate in the ASIAD.
