The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the seeding groups for the 2026 Women's Asian Cup, after determining all 12 participating teams.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese women's team is ranked in seed group number 2, along with China and South Korea.
Group 1 includes Australia (host), Japan and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea; group 3 includes the Philippines, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan; group 4 includes Iran, India and Bangladesh.
Being in the second seed group helps the Vietnamese women's team avoid strong opponents in the group stage, opening up the opportunity to advance and compete for a place in the 2027 Women's World Cup finals when the 2026 Women's Asian Cup finals are also the Asian qualifying round.
The 2026 Women's Asian Cup will take place from March 1 to 21 in Australia. The six teams with the best results in the tournament will qualify for the 2027 Women's World Cup.
Accordingly, the 4 teams that make it to the semi-finals will automatically get tickets to the World Cup, the losing teams in the quarter-finals will be paired up to choose the remaining 2 spots to represent Asia.
On July 29, head coach Mai Duc Chung and captain Huynh Nhu will represent the Vietnamese women's team to Australia to attend the draw ceremony for the 2026 Women's Asian Cup finals.
Previously, in the 2026 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers held at the end of June, the Vietnamese team won all 3 matches in Group E, scoring 17 goals and conceding none.
The team is currently training in Cam Pha ( Quang Ninh ) to prepare for the 2025 Southeast Asian tournament, taking place in early August.
