The Vietnamese team arrived at Noi Bai airport to board a flight to Vientiane (Laos) on the morning of December 6, to prepare for the match against Laos in the opening match of the AFF Cup 2024, taking place at 8:00 p.m. on December 9.

The Vietnamese team that arrived in Laos included head of delegation Tran Anh Tu, the coaching and logistics team, and 26 players selected by Mr. Kim after many rounds of screening the squad.

In 4 out of the last 5 AFF Cups, the Vietnamese team was in the same group as Laos and always reached at least the semi-finals.

In the 2018, 2021 and 2022 AFF Cups, the Vietnamese team all faced Laos away in their opening matches. As a result, Quang Hai and his teammates won 3-0 (in 2018), 2-0 (in 2021) and 3-0 (in 2022). In 2014, Vietnam also beat Laos 3-0 in the second round of the group stage at My Dinh Stadium.

With 11 goals and not a single goal conceded in the last 4 matches, the Vietnamese team still has an overwhelming advantage in matches against neighboring opponents.

However, the match against the country of a million elephants on December 9 will not be easy. The Laos team just held Thailand to a 1-1 draw in a friendly match in November.
