Sinner and Alcaraz praise each other ahead of 2025 Italian Open final

After beating Tommy Paul in the semi-finals on May 16, Jannik Sinner shared: "It's special to compete with Alcaraz in the final. This is a big challenge for me to see where I am. There is no better test than meeting Alcaraz before two Grand Slams, hopefully this will be an exciting match."

Jannik Sinner was suspended for three months for doping, but his return to home soil was impressive. The Italian beat big opponents like Casper Ruud and Tommy Paul to reach the final against Alcaraz.

Sinner has won 19 titles in his career. He has won the ATP Masters 1000 tournament four times but has never won a title at this level on clay. Therefore, this year's Italian Open championship is of great significance to the Italian star.

In their most recent confrontation, Sinner lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the 2024 China Open, ending a 26-match unbeaten streak. Alcaraz has also been impressive this season, winning the Rotterdam Open and Monte Carlo Masters.

On the way to the final of the Italian Open 2025, Alcaraz overcame many tough opponents such as Jack Draper, Lorenzo Musetti. Alcaraz won 6/7 finals on clay and he won 6-4 against Sinner on the head-to-head score.

Alcaraz said of the anticipated clash with Sinner: "This match promises to be great. I have seen him play at a very high level. Every time I meet Sinner it is a really difficult battle. But I also enjoy moments like that."

The ATP homepage also commented on the 2025 Italian Open final: "Two of the brightest stars compete for one of the most prestigious titles to create an increasingly interesting competition. You can't expect anything more than that."

After the 2025 Italian Open final, both top seeds Sinner and Alcaraz will have a week to prepare for Roland Garros 2025 taking place in Paris (France) from May 25 to June 8.
