The match between Italy and Ukraine took place on a neutral field in Leverkusen (Germany). Coach Luciano Spalletti's team did not have much of an advantage over Ukraine, but their recklessness caused them to lose their ticket to EURO 2024 many times.
The joy of the Italian team
In the first half, the Italian team tried to put pressure on the team to find the lead. Striker Federico Chiesa played very energetically, along with teammates Nicolo Zaniolo, Davide Frattesi and Giacomo Raspadori had many scoring opportunities but all missed.
After the first period, the Italian team gradually leaned towards the goal of a draw to be enough to advance. The Ukrainian team fought back fiercely in the late first and second half with the aggressiveness of striker Mykhaylo Mudryk.
At the end of the match, Ukraine thought they would have a chance to score, when Mudryk was fouled by Bryan Cristante in the penalty area. But the referee and VAR both ignored the situation and did not award a penalty, helping Italy to escape a spectacular loss.
