Ethnic minorities join hands to eliminate superstition and backward customs

On June 27, the People's Committee of District 5 (HCMC) organized the 3rd Congress of Ethnic Minorities in District 5 in 2024.

Attending and speaking at the Congress, Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City acknowledged and commended the achievements of the Party Committee, government, Fatherland Front, socio- political organizations and ethnic minorities in the past year.

In particular, the Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City highly appreciated the models and bright spots in promoting strength and maintaining the great solidarity of ethnic groups, thereby improving the material, cultural and spiritual life of the people and ethnic minorities in particular in the area.

District 5 is one of the localities with a large number of ethnic groups living together, of which 54,228 are ethnic minorities. The Chinese ethnic group has about 53,748 people (accounting for 31.6%), followed by the Khmer ethnic group (accounting for 0.11%), the Cham ethnic group (accounting for 0.10%),...

The work of preserving traditional values and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic minorities is of interest, associated with "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle" and local patriotic emulation movements.

Notably, many models, solutions, and innovative factors in building cultural life in residential communities have contributed to preventing and eliminating superstitions and backward customs, creating solidarity among the people.

Speaking at the congress, Mr. Cao Son Yen - Standing Deputy Secretary of District 5 Party Committee (HCMC) said that the Congress of ethnic minorities in District 5 is an event of important political and social significance, a festival for ethnic minorities in the area.

Typically, in the ethnic work in recent times, ethnic minorities continue to strive to rise up, promote the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement; change their thinking and ways of doing things; unite to help each other in labor, production, business, eliminate hunger, reduce poverty, stabilize their lives, gradually get rich; preserve and promote the fine cultural identity of ethnic minorities.

On this occasion, the congress approved the list of 17 delegates to attend the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities in Ho Chi Minh City in 2024, of which Mr. Nguyen Vo Xuan Ky - District Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of District 5 People's Committee as head of the delegation.

At the Congress, the Ho Chi Minh City Ethnic Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 collectives and 5 individuals with good achievements in implementing ethnic policies and ethnic work in the period 2019 - 2024.

Previously, in 2 days (June 25 and 26), the People's Committee of Tan Binh District (HCMC) organized the 3rd Congress of Ethnic Minorities in Tan Binh District in 2024 with the theme "Ethnic minorities unite, be dynamic, creative, join hands to build Tan Binh District with good quality of life, civilized, modern, friendly, and affectionate".
