Quang Tri province has about 13% ethnic minorities, living mainly in Huong Hoa and Dakrong districts. In recent times, the activity of sending ethnic minority youth to work abroad for a limited period of time has been effectively implemented by localities and units, contributing to increasing income and reducing poverty for ethnic minorities.

Ho Van Dong's younger brother in Ky Neh village, A Ngo commune, Dakrong district, Ho Van Luom (25 years old), boldly left his village to work abroad in September 2022. After more than a year of working in Japan, Luom not only paid off all his debt to the bank, but also supported his family in building a new, spacious house. Thanks to that, Ho Van Luom's family has escaped poverty and has the conditions to rise up in the future.

Mr. Ho Van Dong said: “At first, the family did not want to let Luom go to work far away because they were still hesitant and did not know how he would adapt to working abroad. However, after carefully researching information about overseas labor export and information from friends working in Japan, Luom convinced his family and was determined to go there to work to develop the family's economy .

My brother said that he also works at home and also works there, but the income there is much better. Besides, working abroad will help my brother have the opportunity to learn experience, broaden his knowledge, and exchange culture with other countries. After understanding, our family decided to support Luom to work abroad.

Also working in construction in Japan since 2022, Mr. Ho Van Hoi in A Deng village, A Ngo commune, Dakrong district said that with an average salary of about 20 million VND/month that he is receiving, after deducting expenses, this is a stable source of income that helps him improve his family's life.

Through a phone call home after work, Mr. Hoi said: “Compared to when I worked in Vietnam, my current income is very desirable. Moreover, when I come here to work, I can learn from progressive experiences so that after the end of the contract, I can expand my career and find jobs to develop the local economy.”

Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of A Ngo Commune, Le Thi Huynh, informed that recently, the locality has promoted labor export and considered this one of the sustainable and effective poverty reduction solutions.

Ms. Huynh added: “In the coming time, the locality will continue to coordinate with the Commune Youth Union to strengthen propaganda work, especially for children who have finished grade 12 to orient them to work abroad. Children who are able to work abroad will have the opportunity to have a high and stable income to reduce poverty, enrich their families and contribute to promoting the socio-economic development of the locality. We believe that this is also the right solution to create jobs and stable income for local youth.”

Determining that sending ethnic minority youth to work abroad under contracts is one of the solutions to reduce poverty quickly and sustainably for ethnic minority and mountainous areas in Quang Tri province. Therefore, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has actively coordinated with the Bank for Social Policies, localities, especially mountainous localities and recruitment agencies to promote propaganda, disseminate policies and provide advice to workers who want to find jobs abroad.

According to statistics, up to now, Quang Tri province has about 150 ethnic minority youths who have been able to borrow a total capital of nearly 10 billion VND to work abroad, in occupations such as construction, agricultural harvesting, handicraft production... mainly in the Japanese and Korean markets.

Deputy Director of the Provincial Social Policy Bank Phan Van Phap said: Most of the young people who have accessed capital to work abroad have worked hard and complied with the loan contract regulations. At the same time, they have also transferred money back to their families to fulfill their loan repayment obligations. In particular, after completing the debt repayment, workers returning home will have capital to develop production and sustainably reduce poverty right in their locality.

In addition to promoting local economic development, promoting overseas labor has helped many young people, especially those in ethnic minority areas, to have stable lives and improve their family economy. This is also one of the effective ways to sustainably reduce poverty in mountainous areas.

At the same time, sending workers to work abroad is in line with the policies of the Party and the State. This is an opportunity for workers to equip themselves with more skills and good manners to continue contributing to the development of the family economy and supplementing the province with a highly qualified labor force.
