Inter-provincial disaster response team

QTO - Without salary or bonus, even having to spend their own money to take care of common work, the members of the Le Thuy Disaster and Disaster Response Team are still not afraid to venture into difficult and dangerous places. Behind their brave actions is a heart of charity and the desire to become a support for people during storms and floods.

One wish

Flowing through densely populated villages, the Kien Giang River has entered poetry and music, leaving a deep impression on people's hearts. However, during the rainy season, this gentle river is associated with countless worries. Born and raised by the Kien Giang River, members of the Le Thuy Disaster and Disaster Response Team understand those worries. Knowing that it is difficult to avoid the harshness of nature, they want to do something to help people be more steadfast.

As the director of a company specializing in providing electronic products, Mr. Do Ba Thang (born in 1983), the Captain of the Le Thuy Natural Disaster and Disaster Response Team, is very busy. However, he still makes time for the team. 5 years ago, Mr. Thang and his friends founded a volunteer group to help people. While delivering relief goods to Tuyen Quang province, the group encountered difficulties in accessing the area isolated by storms and floods. At that time, a thought appeared in Mr. Thang's mind: "Why not establish a team specializing in helping people in and outside the province respond to natural disasters and disasters?".

Mr. Thang did not expect that this idea was also the long-cherished thought and desire of the other members of the group. In October 2024, the Le Thuy Disaster and Disaster Response Team was born with 15 members. Everyone worked together to build regulations; paid into the fund from their own pocket; mobilized benefactors to support some necessary equipment... Currently, the team has 1 motorboat, 8 small aluminum boats and relief equipment and supplies...

Joining the Le Thuy Disaster and Disaster Response Team, all members are determined to not be afraid of difficulties or hardships. The team's hotline operates 24/7. Upon receiving a call, each member is ready to go. They do not hesitate to do hard work such as: Bringing people to safety; helping to protect property; clearing roads; cleaning up after floods...

Inter-provincial help people

Right from the first days of connection, members of the Le Thuy Disaster and Disaster Response Team determined to overcome geographical boundaries to provide relief to people everywhere. Therefore, whenever they heard news of a natural disaster, the team contacted local authorities and Red Cross at all levels to grasp the situation and come up with support plans.

Until now, the members of the Le Thuy Disaster and Disaster Response Team still remember clearly their first mission after the team was established. That was when Typhoon Yagi devastated the northern provinces and cities, in which Hai Phong City suffered heavy damage. Without hesitation, the team immediately set off. For 5 consecutive days, they approached the area, cleared obstacles, and paved the way for relief vehicles to reach the people. “Those were the days when we only knew instant noodles and boxed lunches. Even in our sleep, we dreamed that we were working,” said team leader Thang.

For Mai Ngoc Phuc (born in 1984), a team member, the recent trip to Nghe An left the deepest impression. At that time, mountainous communes: Tam Thai, Tuong Duong, Tam Quang... were heavily affected by storms and floods. On the trip to help people, Phuc was heartbroken when he saw landslides, damaged schools, collapsed houses... After just one night, many people had lost everything. "Those images made my heart ache. Therefore, when we started working, we worked tirelessly," Phuc confided.

Although newly established, up to now, members of the Le Thuy Natural Disaster and Disaster Response Team have supported people in many provinces and cities such as Tuyen Quang, Hai Phong, Nghe An... Ms. Mai Thi Kim Nhung, President of the Provincial Red Cross Society said: "Although we know the work is difficult and arduous, the team members still make efforts to help people. That is very commendable."

Thank you in action

Responding to natural disasters and catastrophes is difficult, not everyone has the ability, passion and responsibility to do it. Understanding that, members of the Le Thuy Natural Disaster and Catastrophe Response Team always make great efforts in all tasks, especially self-improvement. In that context, the attention and support of relevant levels, sectors and units, especially the Provincial Red Cross Society, has given the team great motivation. For a long time, the red cross shirt has been associated with many members of the team in activities.

In addition to that support, to have long trips to help people, behind the members of the Le Thuy Natural Disaster and Disaster Response Team is always a strong rear. In fact, most of the team members are in difficult circumstances. During natural disasters, their families also have many things to take care of. However, knowing the meaning of the work that the team members are doing, most of their relatives are very supportive. Ms. Dinh Thi Huong Lai, a member in charge of logistics of the team, said: "Before each trip to respond to natural disasters, we often form groups and go to the homes to support the members' families. We also regularly visit and encourage so that both the people who go and those who stay can feel secure."

It is this silent support that has motivated the members of the Le Thuy Disaster and Disaster Response Team to work harder. Not only supporting the response to natural disasters and catastrophes, the team members also actively mobilize resources to support people in difficulty and misfortune. Wherever they go, smiles seem to return soon.
