Loving homes
Early in the morning, fog covered the path leading to Co Do village, Thuong Trach commune. In the middle of the foggy valley, the small house of Y Tu (born in 2015) and her granddaughter appeared, the walls still smelled of lime, the corrugated iron roof glittered in the early morning sun. The 10-year-old Van Kieu girl, thin but with bright eyes, gently held her grandmother's hand and smiled: "I have a new house, no more worries about rainy days!". That house was built from the care and sharing of the community, especially with the cooperation of Quang Tri youth.
Her mother died early, her father remarried and moved to another village. Y Tu lived with her elderly grandmother in a dilapidated, leaky house for many years. Knowing Y Tu's situation, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee connected with the "Light of the Mountains and Forests" Project and the National Volunteer Center to support 80 million VND to build a new house for the two of them. Construction started in early June 2025 with the help of working days from local union members and youth, after 3 months, the house was completed and put into use. Not only is it a place to shelter from the sun and rain for these two unfortunate lives, the house is also a testament to the love, sharing and companionship that Quang Tri youth entrust.

Y Tu's case is just one of hundreds of situations that Quang Tri youth have been joining hands to help. From remote villages such as Dan Hoa, Thuong Trach, Huong Lap... to residential areas in the plains and coastal areas, everywhere there are imprints of the hands, sweat and hearts of young volunteers in green shirts. Each house is a story, the crystallization of sharing, responsibility and compassion - the most beautiful values that the movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" brings.
Not only contributing, the youth of the whole province is also a bridge to mobilize social resources to bring love to difficult circumstances. In 2025, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee mobilized more than 3.5 billion VND to support the construction of 59 new houses for former youth volunteers, poor households, policy households, and children in special circumstances. Of which, 10 "Charity Houses" were sponsored by Tien Phong Newspaper and Vietnam Tobacco Corporation, 9 houses were supported by the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam ( BIDV ), 15 houses were supported by the Government Youth Union, 10 "Love Houses" were funded by the Connecting Love - Spreading Charity Fund, along with 10 "Red Scarf" houses donated to children in difficult areas and many "Happy Houses" for ethnic minority children.
In particular, the project of 100 new houses for ethnic minorities in 3 villages: Bai Dinh, K-Vi, Y Leng (Dan Hoa commune) is a highlight. As of mid-September 2025, 86 houses have been started, of which 63 have completed the foundation, beams, and columns; the youth volunteers are still contributing day and night to help the remaining houses to be completed soon.
The spread of community spirit
Starting from practical actions, the movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" has quickly become a bright spot in the social security activities of the youth in the whole province. Not stopping at numbers and results, the movement is strongly spreading the spirit of living for the community, arousing a sense of responsibility and compassion in each youth union member.

Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Provincial Youth Union Council Dinh Trung Hieu said: To make the movement practical, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has developed a specific and systematic plan, linking the movement to eliminate temporary houses with regular volunteer activities of the youth. From launching the movement "Young people contribute 20,000 working days" to the programs "Volunteer Saturday", "Green Sunday", "Youth Month for Social Security"..., all are concretized with practical and effective actions.
To enhance the effectiveness of the movement, propaganda work has been focused on and promoted by the Youth Union at all levels. More than 560 news, articles and reports have been published on the Youth Union's media, vividly reflecting the journey of the youth in each project and task, helping to deeply spread the humanistic message of the movement.
Up to now, Youth Union bases in the whole province have established more than 960 youth volunteer teams, mobilized over 15,000 youth union members, contributed more than 30,600 working days, directly supported the construction and repair of more than 1,700 houses for poor households, near-poor households, and policy families in difficult circumstances.
The Youth Union at all levels quickly reviewed poor households, near-poor households, and policy families with especially difficult circumstances; established hundreds of youth volunteer teams to support dismantling, transporting materials, pouring foundations, erecting frames, completing and cleaning new houses for people. Along with material support, many Youth Union units also organized gift giving, cleaning, and tree planting around newly handed-over houses, helping households stabilize their lives. Since then, the movement to eliminate temporary houses has not only stopped at building houses but has also expanded into a journey to spread beautiful living values.
"The newly built houses not only change the appearance of rural and mountainous areas but also foster the belief and aspiration for a good life in the hearts of the people. Behind each project are the hearts, sweat and affection of young union members who contribute to bring shelter to the poor. It is this sharing that has ignited the spirit of "mutual love", so that the movement is no longer a slogan but becomes a journey of humanity, perseverance, and full of affection", emphasized Dinh Trung Hieu, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union.
