Pu Sam Cap commune officials guide Ho Si Pan villagers to decorate the welcome gate to implement the community tourism model.

During a working trip to Pu Sam Cap commune at the end of July, we heard local officials praise the changes in Ho Si Pan village, especially the spirit of solidarity, preserving traditional cultural beauty, and aiming to build a community tourism village.
Quite curious, we went to the village to “see for ourselves”. At that time, there was a group of women moving on the road. Each of them held a bag of indigo-dyed cloth, a box of needles and threads in their hands. Everyone’s face was cheerful, chatting animatedly.
During the conversation, Ms. Sung Thi Cua excitedly said: We went together to a sister's house in the village to embroider dresses. My grandmother and mother taught me embroidery techniques since I was young, now I learn more and diversify the patterns and motifs. Taking advantage of my free time, I embroider and sew clothes for myself and my family members. Each motif and pattern on the Mong people's dresses and shirts looks simple but the process is elaborate, you have to remember each motif and embroider symmetrically. Not only do we preserve traditional culture, we also have income from embroidering patterns on brocade and white fabric to make goods and sell at markets.
For generations, Mong women in the village have preserved the art of drawing patterns with beeswax on fabric. The raw materials are yellow and black beeswax (after removing all the honey), then melted and mixed well, corresponding to the light and dark colors. Before drawing, prepare a charcoal basin to heat the beeswax or can be placed directly on the fire. In particular, when drawing patterns (triangles, spirals, coins, crosses, etc.), women must sit at the fire, dip the pen into the bowl of hot beeswax placed on the hot coals. As they draw, they wrap the fabric there. Meticulous, elaborate and requiring creativity, it takes a week, a month, or even several months to complete a strip of fabric to make a skirt. After finishing drawing the entire costume, the fabric is boiled, dyed indigo and dried in the sun to be completed. Although it takes a long time and is elaborate, each Mong woman in Ho Si Pan still preserves it in many ways.
Ms. Ma Thi Mua said: We are very happy and proud because our national identity has been passed down through many generations. On normal days, holidays, Tet, and when going away, we let our children wear traditional costumes. I am also teaching my niece to embroider patterns to make costumes.
Ho Si Pan village has 79 households, 432 people, nearly 100% of whom are Mong ethnic people. In recent years, the Party Committee and the authorities of the commune and village have actively coordinated to propagate and mobilize people to change their thinking and ways of doing things in economic development; eliminate and push back backward customs and practices; and unite to preserve the national cultural identity.
Comrade Chang A Nu - Secretary of the Ho Si Pan village Party Cell affirmed: Previously, the villagers maintained growing flax and weaving. As society developed, indigo-dyed fabrics were sold a lot at the markets, so many women bought them ready-made to draw motifs and patterns for embroidery. At this time, the village continues to propagate and mobilize people to implement Resolution No. 04-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee on preserving and promoting the fine cultural identities of ethnic groups associated with tourism development in Lai Chau province, period 2021-2025, orientation to 2030. In addition, the village established and maintained an art troupe; organized sports activities, folk games during holidays, New Year, and festivals.
With the orientation of building a community tourism village, the people of Ho Si Pan village actively create highlights to attract tourists. From there, good cultural values are continued and passed on to generations, contributing to building an advanced Vietnamese culture with strong national identity.
