According to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), a magnitude 6.6 earthquake occurred off the coast of Central America at 00:22 on July 19 (GMT, or 7:22 the same day Vietnam time).
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at 12.74 north latitude and 88.09 west longitude, with a focal depth of 75.1 km.
The earthquake shook much of Central America from Nicaragua to Guatemala.
Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.5 with its epicenter located about 43km south of the town of Intipuca, El Salvador. The depth of the epicenter was 70km.
In El Salvador's capital San Salvador, people ran into the streets to escape danger after houses shook from the earthquake.
However, there have been no reports of damage or casualties caused by the earthquake. El Salvador's Ministry of Environment has ruled out the risk of a tsunami caused by the earthquake.
In Nicaragua, people in the country's capital as well as along the Pacific coast also felt strong tremors from the earthquake.
Currently, there are no reports of damage caused by the earthquake in this country.
