After being established on the basis of merging Phong Hoa ward and two communes of Phong Chuong and Phong Binh (old), Phong Dinh ward has many new opportunities to develop the local economy . Currently, Phong Dinh ward is the convergence of many famous traditional craft villages of Hue city. Among them, My Xuyen fine art carpentry village is a highlight. With sophisticated manual woodworking techniques, the craft village currently has more than 50 households participating in production, creating stable jobs for about 100 local workers, with an average income of nearly 10 million VND/person/month. My Xuyen wooden products not only serve local needs but also supply the markets of many provinces and cities in the country.
Along with carpentry, Phuoc Tich ancient pottery village, one of the oldest pottery villages in Vietnam, is being restored in the direction of conservation associated with developing experiential tourism . In addition to sightseeing and shopping, visitors can also experience the pottery making process, creating products with their own personal stamp.
Another unique craft village is Pho Trach sedge mats made from natural sedge trees - a tree species that adapts well to the local soil. Currently, in Phong Dinh ward, there are more than 200 households making sedge mats, producing souvenirs such as baskets, bags, hats, tea trays, mats, etc. Among them, many households have expanded their scale, built large production facilities, and linked with businesses to create high-quality OCOP products that are popular in the market. Products from Pho Trach sedge mats craft village are also introduced quite a lot at trade fairs and conferences in Hue city and are assessed by partners as suitable for the current sustainable consumption trend.
In addition, in the current 700ha area of the entire Phong Dien Industrial Park (IP), Phong Dinh accounts for more than 1/3, equivalent to nearly 250ha. This is one of the key IPs of Hue City, attracting many large domestic and foreign enterprises to invest. Notable ones include: Phennika Hue Company, Dat Phuong Glass Joint Stock Company specializing in the production of high-quality construction materials from sand; Kanlongda Hue Joint Stock Company specializing in the production of labor protection equipment for export... These enterprises are creating jobs for more than 2,000 workers, contributing significantly to the restructuring of the local economy.
According to Mr. Trinh Duc Nhu, Chairman of Phong Dinh Ward People's Committee, in recent years, the growth rate of the local trade and service sector has reached an average of 18% per year, accounting for 28% of the economic structure. In addition, the agricultural sector has also maintained a stable growth rate of 6.5% per year, showing a reasonable and sustainable shift in the local development model.
Expanding sustainable development space
The positive changes of Phong Dinh in recent times are the synchronous investment in socio-economic infrastructure. Many important projects have been and are being built, such as flood shelters in Dong Phu and Phu Loc; the Phong Dien - Dien Loc rescue route passing through the area; urban beautification projects, expanding cultural and community sports spaces. These projects not only contribute to improving the quality of life, but also promote socio-economic development, creating a spacious and modern urban appearance.
At the same time, in the period of 2021 - 2025, Phong Dinh has been actively calling for more than 10 non-budget investment projects focusing on the fields of tourism, services, sand mining and renewable energy...
Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Phong Dinh Ward People's Committee affirmed: Although Phong Dinh is a sandy area, it has a special advantage, which is the foundation for planning and building a sustainable economic development strategy. The merger of the three communes/wards of Phong Hoa, Phong Chuong, Phong Binh (old) is an opportunity for the locality to build a strong solidarity bloc. Solidarity is the key to overcoming all barriers, bringing Phong Dinh to comprehensive development in industry, services, trade, tourism, and agriculture in the coming time; in which, focusing on further promoting the urban development program and administrative reform associated with digital transformation.
