Domestic pepper price updated on January 28, 2025

According to information from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first half of January 2025, Vietnam exported 6,383 tons of pepper, worth more than 42 million USD. The export price of pepper in the first half of January reached an average of 6,648 USD/ton, higher than the average export price in 2024 (5,280 USD/ton). This shows that pepper prices in the export market are still high.

In the domestic market, pepper prices in January 2025 are still maintained at a high level. In the days approaching Tet At Ty, pepper prices are approaching 150,000 VND/kg.

Experts say that the decrease in global pepper production is the main reason for pepper prices to remain high. According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), the world recorded a global pepper production decrease of about 4% in 2024 compared to 2023, equivalent to a decrease of 22,000 tons, down to 558,000 tons. This decrease mainly comes from Brazil and Vietnam.

The Vietnam Industry and Trade Information Center (VITIC) assessed that the pepper harvest in Vietnam will begin after the Lunar New Year 2025 and last until the end of April 2025.

Currently, Vietnam and Brazil still maintain their leading positions in pepper exports, while Indonesia increases exports. However, pepper output in 2025 may not increase sharply due to reduced planting areas in some localities.

Vietnam's pepper exports in 2025 are expected to face both opportunities and challenges, with pepper prices depending on consumption from major markets such as the US and China.
