In recent days, due to heavy rains and the release of floodwaters from hydroelectric dams to regulate water, the water flow from upstream has caused the Hoai River in Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province to rise, flooding some streets in Hoi An Ancient Town. However, many tourists still take pictures at this time.
At 10:00 a.m. on November 25, present in Hoi An ancient town, a reporter from Dai Doan Ket Online newspaper recorded that the rain had stopped, but the Hoai River water rose and flooded some streets in the ancient town.
On roads such as Bach Dang, Le Loi, Hoang Van Thu… in Hoi An City, water from the Hoai River rose up and caused flooding. However, these roads still had many tourists wading through the water to take souvenir photos or rowing boats to stroll and admire the ancient town of Hoi An during the flood season.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, in Hoi An City, said that from November 24 to the morning of November 25, the Hoai River rose, flooding Bach Dang Street by more than 30 cm, then water began to overflow onto some streets such as Le Loi and Hoang Van Thu. Some residents living along this street urgently cleaned up their belongings and moved them to higher places to avoid water damage.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ba said that in recent days, the rising water of the Hoai River has caused flooding on some roads. While some local people are somewhat worried, many tourists enjoy wading through the water to check in and take pictures.
The first section of An Hoi Bridge - the bridge across Hoai River, was crowded with tourists taking pictures here. Besides, when the water level of Hoai River rose, some locals anchored their boats at the intersection of Bach Dang - Le Loi Street to serve the needs of tourists rowing boats for sightseeing.
Meanwhile, some tourists sitting at sidewalk cafes enjoying coffee used their phones and cameras to record images of floodwaters flooding the road in front of the cafes.
Mr. Vo Dang Phong, Chairman of Minh An Ward People's Committee, Hoi An City said: "Due to the large amount of water flowing from upstream, the Hoai River has risen, causing flooding in a section of Bach Dang Street and several other streets in Hoi An Ancient Town. In this situation, the local government has sent militia to set up barriers and reminded tourists to limit checking in and taking souvenir photos on deeply flooded streets to ensure their safety."
