Plan to replace suspension with writing a self-criticism

This change is included in the draft circular regulating rewards and discipline for students, which the ministry has been soliciting opinions on since May 6.

Accordingly, students are disciplined if they violate the Lawon Education , school regulations or competent authorities. Depending on the severity, primary school students are warned or asked to apologize. Secondary and high school students are warned, criticized or asked to write a self-criticism.

Previously, student discipline was still based on regulations issued in 1988. In which, the forms of student discipline were reprimand in front of the class, before the school disciplinary council, warning in front of the whole school, 1-week expulsion and 1-year expulsion. Since 2020, the Ministry of Education and Training has issued school regulations at all levels, including regulations on student discipline including forms of criticism in front of the class and school have been abolished. The highest level of discipline for students is temporary suspension from school, usually 1-4 weeks.

If the above draft is issued, it will end the form of disciplinary suspension from school, which is otherwise known as "expulsion". The view of the Ministry of Education and Training is that discipline must be based on the principle of initiative and positivity from the learner. In particular, disciplinary measures that are violent, insulting to dignity, and affect the physical and mental health of students must not be used. With this change, student discipline will eliminate a consequence that many educators worry about: when students are suspended from school, where will they be in the education system?

In fact, many children after being "expelled from school" became uneducated and fell into wrongful and deviant behavior.
