Can Tho tourism accelerates, attracting visitors thanks to new products and open spaces.

With over 6.3 million tourists in the first six months, Can Tho's tourism industry is booming thanks to its diverse products, attractive pricing, and leveraging the advantages of its vast space following the administrative boundary consolidation.

Can Tho City is focusing on activities to stimulate tourism demand in order to meet the requirements of accelerated development in the new phase.

In the first few months of 2025, the city focused on encouraging tourism businesses to link destinations and service products to create stimulus packages; offering price and service incentives, and enhancing the visitor experience. At the same time, the city organized many activities and events to help attract tourists…

In the first six months of 2025, the city welcomed over 6.3 million visitors, with more than 2.7 million overnight stays; revenue reached approximately 5,450 billion VND.

This result contributes to the successful implementation of Resolution No. 25/NQ-CP dated February 5, 2025, of the Government on "growth targets for local sectors and fields to ensure the national growth target in 2025 reaches 8% or more;" creating momentum for growth in the following years, meeting the requirements for accelerated and breakthrough development of the tourism industry in line with the development roadmap of the economy in the era of national progress.

Ms. Le Dinh Minh Thy, Director of Viettravel Can Tho Branch, said that from the beginning of 2025 until now, Viettravel has developed tour products and packages to stimulate tourism, contributing to increasing the number of tourists and revenue for the city.

The company focuses on developing diverse promotional products to attract tourists from other regions, especially those in the Central and Northern regions. To further boost tourism in the coming period, Viettravel Can Tho Branch will continue to implement specific timelines and develop seasonal promotional products suitable for each time of year.

The unit is committed to continuing to maintain and develop a diverse range of tourism stimulus products in the future; thereby helping tourism in Can Tho in particular, and the Mekong Delta in general, develop to its full potential.

According to the Can Tho City Tourism Association, from July 1, 2025, after the merger of three localities (including the old Can Tho city, the old Hau Giang, and the old Soc Trang), the new Can Tho city will have an area of ​​approximately 6,300 square kilometers, a population of over 4 million people, and 103 communes and wards.

This is a major turning point that expands the scope for development, enriching resources, identity, human resources, and raw material areas to serve tourism development.

After the merger, the city has Can Tho International Airport, major cargo ports, and many festivals rich in Southern Vietnamese culture. In addition, it boasts a diverse range of accommodation options, with 3-5 star hotels perfectly suited to hosting major events, cultural activities, and festivals.

These factors contribute to creating a new and diverse development space for tourism in Can Tho in the coming time. Mr. Truong Van Vinh, Director of Ido Travel Company and Standing Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City Tourism Association, suggested that city leaders should promote inviting large investors to build tourism areas and destinations of regional and national scale.

Simultaneously, the locality is focusing on planning the development of nighttime tourism products such as cuisine, shopping areas, and shows to create highlights for tourists; strengthening connections with other provinces and cities through air routes and completing major ports so that cruise ships can bring international tourists to Can Tho.

According to Mr. Truong Van Vinh, to stimulate tourism, the locality needs to strengthen the linkage of quality tourism service chains, build integrated products from the local strengths, and create distinctive highlights for each product line such as river tourism, festival tourism, and pilgrimage tourism. At the same time, the city should strengthen connections with provinces in the region to create more products in the new context.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Suong, General Director of Hai Au Can Tho Hotel and Tourism Company Limited, said that in the city's new environment, with its diverse natural and cultural resources and cuisine, travel agencies will have many opportunities to innovate and improve tourism products.

Based on local cultural resources, units need to incorporate stories, delve into the culture, people, and land to create unique characteristics.

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, Dao Thi Thanh Thuy, emphasized that entering a new development phase, the Department has identified the need to further promote sustainable tourism development; and at the same time, boost tourism stimulus activities.

The Department has coordinated with the City Tourism Association and tourism businesses to develop, organize, and announce stimulus programs; mobilizing more than 150 packages of products, services, and tours to stimulate tourism from businesses, accommodation establishments, restaurants, destinations, and entertainment services, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and attracting tourists to Can Tho and neighboring provinces.

In the coming period, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will advise the People's Committee of Can Tho City on the implementation of the Tourism System Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045; implement the plan to survey tourist destinations and tourism products in the area; participate in a tourism networking delegation and survey the model of managing floating markets for tourism in Thailand; promote Can Tho City tourism at the EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai (Japan)...

In addition, the Department is promoting digital transformation and tourism; strengthening the effectiveness of linkages and cooperation in tourism development between Can Tho city and other localities to form and develop new products.
