Booking.com - one of the world's leading digital travel agencies - believes that nighttime travel is among the top travel trends of 2025, when many people want to escape the daytime crowds to find the magic of the night.

Rebecca Douglas, a professional photographer from Kent, UK, has been to Iceland 29 times and has booked her 30th trip, specifically to photograph the aurora borealis. She has been documenting the spectacular natural phenomenon in photographs since 2010 and has unwittingly become a pioneer in a travel trend focused on experiences after dark.
A global survey of more than 27,000 travelers by Booking.com found that nearly two-thirds of respondents have considered evening activities such as stargazing (72%), admiring unique celestial events (59%) and following constellations (57%).
Most nighttime tourism experiences involve the sky, but there are also many activities that take place on the ground, such as city tours, truffle hunting in Italy, full moon picnics by the sea...
Luxury travel company Wayfairer Travel says nighttime travel experiences have increased by 25% in the past year, with many requests for aurora viewing in Norway and Iceland, as well as night diving in Australia's Great Barrier Reef and Egypt's Red Sea.
Nocturnal wildlife tours in Zambia and Kenya, and stargazing in Chile's Atacama Desert are also popular options.
Mr. Jay Stevens, CEO of Wayfairer Travel, commented that nighttime experiential tourism will change the "smokeless industry" in 2025, when tourists like to seek unique experiences in the dark.
Tourists are venturing to remote parts of the world to witness amazing sights, and Greenland's Arctic region is seen as a must-see destination thanks to its remote, light-pollution-free coastline, a spokesman for Scott Dunn said.
But visitors don’t have to travel far. Many hotels from Hawaii to Austria now offer stargazing activities. According to NASA, the total lunar eclipse will occur on March 14, 2025, and will be visible in many parts of the world, including the Americas, Western Europe and West Africa.
Douglas usually plans her trips during the best time to see the aurora, usually between August and April. She also chooses to book her accommodations in remote locations, away from towns and populated areas, as even a streetlight or light from a house can ruin the photos.
We all know that art requires a lot of hard work on the part of the artist. But for photographer Douglas, taking time to travel and take photos at night is a "privilege" of the profession.
