Diversified agricultural and rural tourism products

Hanoi currently has the first two OCOP products that have been evaluated and classified as 4 stars in the group of community tourism services, eco-tourism and tourist destinations, which are Hong Van rural tourism service site, Hong Van commune (Thuong Tin district) and Phu Dong Green Park eco-tourism area, Phu Dong commune (Gia Lam district). Up to now, Hanoi has recognized 7 tourist destinations in the suburban areas associated with agricultural, rural, craft village and ecological tourism, including: Duong Xa commune tourist site, Phu Dong tourist site (Gia Lam district); Thuy Ung horn comb craft village tourist site, Van Diem high-class carpentry village tourist site (Thuong Tin district); Dai Ang tourist site, Yen My tourist site (Thanh Tri district); Long Ho village tourist site, Kim Son commune (Son Tay town). In addition, districts and towns have also formed many other rural tourist attractions such as: Huong Son Scenic Area (My Duc District), Duong Lam Ancient Village (Son Tay Town); tourism models combined with agriculture such as: White Goat Farm; Countryside Farm (Ba Vi District) and many other famous craft villages in the suburbs, the landscape and environment are embellished and protected, always attracting tourists.

Notably, agricultural tourism destinations in Hanoi have received attention and investment, initially bringing positive results. Typically, Hong Van commune, Thuong Tin district. From an agricultural commune, it has now developed in the direction of a craft village of ornamental plants combined with exploiting experiential ecotourism services. Before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, Hong Van commune welcomed nearly 70,000 visitors each year. Currently, Hong Van commune has more than 20 models of sightseeing and tourism experiences that have been invested in a systematic and large scale to welcome visitors. Visitors coming here can visit the production, processing and packaging areas of herbal teas such as moringa and honeysuckle; visit the area where more than 100 types of country wine are soaked with herbs; visit flower routes, ornamental plant gardens, visit models of planting and harvesting seasonal agricultural products...

Vinh Ngoc Commune, Dong Anh District is a locality in the planning of new rural construction according to the orientation of organic agricultural development associated with ecotourism. The organic grape growing model is combined with local ecotourism. Taking advantage of the advantages of agriculture, transportation and tourism, the Farmers' Association of Vinh Ngoc Commune has established a professional grape growing association with a scale of nearly 5 hectares. Visitors here can experience the stages of planting, caring for and harvesting grapes with a safe production process. This model has both created momentum for agricultural economic development, increased income for farmers, and created an ecological space between urban areas.

During the summer, weekends or when implementing outdoor study programs, Dong Que Farm (Ba Vi District) always welcomes many tourists, especially groups of students coming for extracurricular activities. Coming here, the children can experience the space of an ancient Vietnamese village, listen to introductions, and get acquainted with farming such as growing vegetables, harvesting agricultural products, etc. To create appeal and attract visitors, Dong Que Farm coordinates with local people to take visitors to visit the traditional medicine village of the Dao people, enjoy gong dances, and cuisine of the Muong ethnic group, etc.

Located in Phu Cuong commune (Soc Son district), Long Viet Agricultural Park with an area of 120,000 m2 is a familiar address for many families and schools in Hanoi. Here, along with traditional houses and designed spaces, creates a familiar image of the old Northern countryside. Visitors can participate in and experience folk games such as blindfolded pot smashing, catching fish with bamboo baskets, rowing basket boats... experience being a farmer, doing the work of planting vegetables, transplanting rice, harvesting tomatoes...

In addition, the suburban districts of Hanoi also have many models exploiting the strengths of rural agriculture. These localities all have advantages in natural landscapes, large areas, many local products and still have long-standing agricultural villages, creating typical agricultural products such as roses, vegetables of Me Linh, vegetables, Dong Du guava (Gia Lam district), fruit trees such as guava, grapes, apples, grapefruit, oranges in Hoai Duc district, fruits in Dan Phuong, Phuc Tho, Ung Hoa districts... Some localities have initially connected with localities in the region to introduce and promote agricultural tourism products, attracting tourists to explore, experience, visit and shop.

Need to strengthen connectivity, promote promotion

Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang said that with a large area, diverse natural and cultural ecosystems, and a location connecting provinces and cities across the country, Hanoi has the potential and advantages to develop agricultural and rural tourism into a typical product with its own identity of tourism in the capital. Currently, the capital's tourism industry focuses on exploiting the potential of ecology, culture, and traditional craft villages to build agricultural tourism models, bringing interesting experiences to tourists.

At the Scientific Workshop on assessing the current status of agricultural and rural tourism development in Hanoi held in July 2023, scientists, experts, managers, and tourism businesses all shared the view that the potential for agricultural and rural tourism in Hanoi is huge, but there are still many shortcomings. Director of Vietsense Travel Company Nguyen Van Tai said that agricultural tourism in Hanoi has products, but lacks unique products, sometimes overlaps, and activities are still small-scale and spontaneous. The three-way connection between managers, people, and travel businesses is still weak, so it cannot create a driving force for the development of agricultural tourism.

To promote the development of agricultural and rural tourism, Hanoi needs to overcome shortcomings, focus on developing agricultural and rural tourism associated with the development of green tourism, eco-tourism, promoting the beauty of the landscape, culture of rural areas, need to be associated with community tourism, associated with traditional craft villages connecting with tourist attractions, relics, and scenic spots of each locality and region. Build diverse, rich, high-quality, environmentally friendly tourism products. Focus on training human resources, promote communication and promotion. Hanoi needs to build an agricultural tourism map, which indicates areas with the potential to develop typical tourism products of each destination on the basis of linking, forming agricultural and rural tourism routes and spots./.
