Since the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided, there have been predictions from tourism businesses that the trend of individual tourists will "reign" due to the shift from sightseeing to experience. At the same time, thanks to the outstanding utilities of digital transformation, most tourists can be proactive in their trips.
Mr. Cao Tri Dung - Chairman of the Da Nang City Tourism Association said that the general trend of global tourism is that customers book their own travel on online travel platforms, which is dominating, leading to the trend of individual travelers becoming more and more popular.
In Da Nang and Hoi An, this trend is becoming increasingly evident, with about 70% of tourists coming to the locality being individual visitors, traveling in family groups, and the remaining 30% being group visitors. This will have a major impact on policy adjustments and solutions from management agencies and tourism businesses to adapt.
Recently, the domestic tourist market has also shifted significantly in this direction. According to the representative of the Quang Nam Villas & Homestay Association (Quang Nam Tourism Association), during the peak season for domestic tourists, the accommodation demand of groups of families, friends, etc. in Hoi An is very high. While the villa and homestay types have a limited number of rooms, are suitable for relaxation, and have private spaces, so they are very popular with customers.
Mr. Le Quoc Viet - Chairman of the Club "Quang Nam Destination - Preserving Indigenous Values" (Quang Nam Tourism Association) said that the western and southern regions of Quang Nam are also attractive destinations for individual tourists, especially backpacking groups to experience eco-tourism and community tourism.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam said that in order to flexibly serve the needs of individual customers who use services but do not buy package tours, many travel businesses have cooperated with hotel partners, homestays, resorts, restaurants, areas, and destinations in Quang Nam to have prices specifically for individual customers who book rooms at the same level as group customers.
At the same time, the company organizes tours for small groups, traveling on the requested dates of customers and can adjust the program and services according to their preferences.
Maintain attraction with group guests
According to tourism businesses, to improve the capacity to welcome group guests, destinations need to have a complete infrastructure - service "ecosystem", be able to welcome cruise ship guests, MICE guests, wedding tourists as well as constantly expand flight routes to new markets, have special policies to attract group guests...

Mr. Cao Tri Dung informed that through practical service and survey, some markets still have the habit of traveling in groups such as China, Taiwan (in this market alone, about 90% have the habit of traveling in groups)...
In addition, some markets, despite having open visa policies such as Korea, Japan, Russia, CIS countries, etc., still prefer group travel due to the leading role of travel agencies.
“There are still some proactive groups of tourists guided by large travel companies in coordination with international airlines. To proactively increase the capacity to welcome group tourists, MICE tourism is a pillar. Da Nang's MICE tourism ecosystem is currently among the best in Vietnam, so local tourism will still be an attractive destination for group tourists in the coming time,” said Mr. Dung.
According to Hoiana representative, recently the unit has also signed many agreements with associations and businesses of some Northeast Asian markets such as Korea, Hong Kong (China)...
This is expected to boost the number of group and high-spending visitors to Quang Nam, especially when Hoiana expands its product and service system for MICE tourism and entertainment tourism in the near future.
Quang Nam Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism added that recently the local tourism industry has continuously welcomed famtrip groups, presstrip groups, film crews, famous people, and influential people from many markets to survey and learn about Quang Nam tourism.
In addition, it also signed cooperation agreements with domestic airlines and Vietnam Railways to expand the exploitation of new tourism products, increase demand stimulation, and attract more large groups of tourists to Quang Nam.
