As a person with many years of experience in the agricultural sector, Ms. Do Thi Hoa, Director of Xuan Minh Agricultural and Rural Development Cooperative, Xuan Minh Commune (Tho Xuan) said: "In addition to flower varieties with high economic value such as orchids and lilies that must be imported, the agricultural sector and people in the province have been able to produce most types of plant varieties themselves. Typically, hybrid rice and hybrid corn varieties not only serve production in the province but also supply the domestic market. Every year, Xuan Minh Agricultural and Rural Development Cooperative has used biological pesticides, applied synchronous mechanization in most stages of production and post-harvest preservation techniques... The cooperative has built a production chain linking hundreds of tons of rice seeds each year with ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company".
As one of the leading units in research, testing, and technology transfer of many plant varieties in the province, Thanh Hoa Agricultural Institute has developed hundreds of high-quality plant varieties for production. From 2019 to present, Thanh Hoa Agricultural Institute has researched, applied, and built 3 technological processes in the fields of cultivation. In addition, it has received and mastered 2 new technological processes from outside to apply to plant variety production to create high-quality varieties for production, such as: Invitro rapid multiplication technology of golden orchid; technology to produce hybrid acacia varieties using tissue culture method. These are the most modern and superior seed production technologies today. Currently, the institute is managing dozens of plant varieties and producing according to market requirements such as forestry varieties, medicinal plants, flower varieties... Among them, there are plants with high economic value such as orchids, cordyceps, lingzhi mushrooms, chicken thigh mushrooms, gerbera daisies, Kim Tan purple sugarcane, sugarcane, bellflowers, chrysanthemums... In particular, with the method of plant tissue culture, the hybrid acacia variety has been created, affirming its superiority in improving the productivity and quality of planted forest wood to provide seedlings for businesses in the province.
Ms. Ho Thi Quyen, a technician at the Analysis and Testing Department, Thanh Hoa Agricultural Institute, said: "Tissue culture is currently the most advanced technology for producing plant varieties. This method can screen plants with good characteristics to mass produce good quality plant varieties, resulting in products with higher economic value than plants propagated by traditional methods. Tissue cultured plants are disease-free, brighter in color, and more uniform. Applying this method can propagate quickly and evenly, promptly meeting the demand for large-scale plant varieties."
Currently, Thanh Hoa province has more than 200 units participating in the production and trading of plant varieties and about 20 units outside the province operating in production and trading in the area. Every year, the demand for plant varieties reaches tens of thousands of tons and millions of seedlings. Therefore, to be proactive in production, localities in the province have built seed production areas in the districts of Yen Dinh, Thieu Hoa, Tho Xuan, Nong Cong... with an area of over 6,500 hectares/year, meeting 30 - 40% of seed demand for production, helping farmers reduce seed costs compared to imported varieties. In addition, the province also has a number of units participating in the production of high-quality plant varieties such as: Thanh Hoa Seed Joint Stock Company always applies molecular biotechnology to select and create new rice varieties with high yield, good quality, resistance and adaptation to climate change such as Lam Son 8 pure rice variety, DT80 rice variety, Viet 1 pure rice variety and Thanh Huong pure rice variety... Currently, these rice varieties have been officially recognized as new plant varieties, circulating in the northern provinces. Thach Thanh Protective Forest Management Board with tissue culture models to nurture large timber forests, with tissue culture hybrid acacia varieties, new eucalyptus varieties such as GLGU9, GLSE9, GLU4 and Cu Vi DH32-29... has contributed to improving the productivity, quality and value of planted forests for people in mountainous areas...
The application of high technology in production and plant breeding has contributed to improving productivity, quality and value of the crop sector in the province. At the same time, it is the foundation for Thanh Hoa to develop sustainable and modern agriculture and meet market demands.
